Shop Messed up on mounting, what should I do?

Truley if you don't plan on remounting any more, then a second mount wouldn't be that big of a deal and would not affect the strength of the ski (that only happens after three mounts).

Otherwise I would approach them in a calm matter and ask them if there is anything that they can do about your skis, because you paid for their service and they messed it up. Be calm and collected and maybe they will be generous enough to offer you some kind of repayment

yeah im more upset about them messing up on a service and contradicting themselves. Im not the kind of person to freak out, im pretty calm and collected all the time. The only repayment they offered was a remount, and I think I deserve more than that considering i spent $500 on the skis and bindings

Do you skis still click into your bindings like normal? Is the boot's centerline lined up with the line on your ski you asked the shop to mount them at? Can you post pictures to clarify the issue further?

Maybe ask for some kind of gaurantee that if they rip out you get new skis. That way if there is no problem, then hooray for everyone, but if it is truly weakened they are responsible.

Well if the shop truly screwed up the mount then it probably should replace the skis. They screwed you out of a mount and the only way your going to get that back is with new skis.

They're fine, just leave them as they are. As long as they're still within the adjustment range nothing should be stressed to any degree that it will compromise the strength or performance of the binding. As long as they did a good job on the mount itself then the uneven stress on the front vs back screws won't matter. As you've got yourself a shorter mounting footprint anyway the way you have them now.

I've heard of this happening and here's my experience with it.

About a year and a half ago, my friend had some bindings mounted incorrectly on a pair of volkl walls at a shop. At the time, he didn't realize his bindings were mounted incorrectly. He said the binding still remained functionally operational, however, the heel piece ripped out a few weeks later. After going in to remount them, one of the homies in the shop said one of the techs fucked up on the initial installation. He was a little irritated because that shouldn't happen and he knew the skis would be a little less optimal but he wasn't honestly angry or upset. He talked to one of the managers and with a little charm and understanding, the manager realized they fucked up and gave him the option of picking out another pair of identical volkl walls, same size, same year, etc. and he got another pair of skis for free.

Idk if my friend got to keep his original pair or if he had to trade them in when he got the second pair, but I do know he did not buy the skis at the shop he got them mounted at, so the shop basically compensated him for their mistake.

If the shop is a big business, then they might / probably offer something like this, but if they are a smaller shop, you'd probably have to argue your case.

and Boax that was my thought, but the healpiece that slides was sticking out past the back of the track by about 1cm.


Just went down again and spoke with the manager, got a free remount on the spot, as i weigh 140 lbs and doubt ill be snapping my skis. Also got a refund and store credit which i think is fair, they also put this in their records so if something does happen theres proof of all this.


All in all lesson learned, be very specific when getting shopwork done

heres a lil story for ya . winter of 2010 i had a got a sick new pair of skis that were some really nice boutique brand rocker d / cambered skis, 185 in length. im leaving the name of the skis out cause the last time i shared this people just said the skis sucked and thats what happened. well the skis don't suck, i have a friend who's been riding the same pair i got in 2010 and they look like new. anyways..... so i take my skis into a very well respected shop in town ( " the best ") , iv e been using them for 14+ yrs. up at that point, given them A LOT of business, and never had any problems with them , in fact the MANAGER was my neighbor for 6 years and we were good friends ( i thought, ) and my family was good friends with their fam etc. Well i took them to get mounted, waxed, tuned etc. and had no worries. these were a directional sidecut ski with a the front of the skis being 15mm wider than the tails, and they had arrows pointing to the top of the skis on the sidewalls etc. basically they were really easy to tell which was the TIP of the ski, and what was the TAIL of the ski. so fucking obvious ... Well one week later i go to pick up my skis and am pretty pumped to get them ! lady was like , "heres your skis buddy", cool , well the only problem i have is that they are fucking mounted backwards !! as in the tail of the ski was the front and the tip was the back! the completely mounted the bindings backward on a directional sidecut pair of skis.. wow. so im like what ever can i talk to the OWNER please ( you always go to the top as soon as possible on these things) , well the owner wasn't there that day and would be in till tomorrow she said ( i wasnt surprised at all, he's the owner, and i just wanted to make the point i wanted to talk to the owner of the establishment ) etc. and not some ski tech. so i asked is the manager there. my old neighbor . didn't want to talk to manager really as i was pissed, but as i said i thought we were on good terms and he of all people would get it, as i know he knew they were a very spend y pair of skis. he says well we can just remount them for you, no bigie. well that was a biggie for me, i didnt want my 900 dollar pair of skis remounted as the holes would match up if i wanted them mounted where i wanted and since they were mounted backward the tech totally missed the mounting pad etc and i said that would not work for me. well he said thats all i can do for you man, so i said ok, ill wait and talk to the OWNER, not the fucking MANAGER. i went back the next day, explained everything clearly and was very friendly and let him know iv e been supporting his business for over a decade etc and i was not happy with what happened or the offer i was given the day before. he was very understanding as i kept my cool and gave me two options 1. we will buy the exact same pair of skis that you had and you can keep the ones we fucked 2. you can pick out any pair in the shop comparable to the price of your skis and you can keep the ones we fucked. Well since this brand only made 30 pairs of that ski, option 1 didn't work, so i decided to pick out the new Atomic bencheters and got to keep my ones they fucked up. and i was happy and i thanked him for doing his best for fixing a difficult problem that could have been a huge hassle if i had to deal with that stupid fucking manager and ski techs. since then i had the skis remounted the right way once i got some bindings, they broke in a day right behind the binding sheet as i stated at the very beginning would happen haha . so im glad i got a new pair of chetlers at least to keep me going even tho after 3 years there pretty beat ha. But after this novel, the morel of the story ( at least in my case ) is to not fuck around with shop noobs or managers and go straight to the top asap . Also the fact i kept my cool and was extremely polite helped im sure, no ones guna be happy after getting their skis fucked, but at the same time no ones guna hook up an asshole. good luck buddy, sorry for the novel, just wanted to let you know this shit happens alot more than you think and i wanted to share how i handled the situation. good luck.

your skis were legit jacked up by their mistake, it's only fair you got new skis..

yeah, as I said i thought demanding new skis sounded extreme for the situation, but just like montanana ive been going to this shop for 10+ years and given them a lot of business. But Yes it is a big deal to have the center of the healpiece be directly at only 1 set of screws. I dont even weigh much and ive ripped out bindings that way (adjusted bindings to bigger boots myself)

ha ha ya apparently, it was pretty darn ridiculous for sure. and ur right its only fair i got new skis in that situation, im thankful, hopefully OP can get something figured out, i hate these kind of things and dealing with shops cause you never really wanna get mad cause well, its yo shop !
