Girls getting what they want, smaller slopestyle jumps

Just saw the WC Slopestyle in Voss Norway, on bothe side of the 3 large kikcers they've buildt smarler kickers, with less knuckle for the girls! Of course, it optional if they wat to hiit the 25 meter tables instead!

I'm excited to see how this turns out.

Some ladies have been asking for this for a while and I'm wondering if they will take more chances now that they feel the risk isn't as great.

Not trying to say I fully agree or disagree with it. But to start seeing some bigger tricks even if they are smaller jumps could maybe start building up some confidence for comp lines.

On a side note, I'm actually wondering why this isn't more popular. At the smaller comps in Mammoth, there is usually a girlfriend line and they get to pick what they hit.

Is it that it takes that much more time to add the girlfriend jumps? Does it have to do with media and the camera guy needing to follow the skier off whatever side without hitting a jump? Has it just been that we expected females should be able to do it even when they've been asking for the option of smaller jumps? Is it harder to score (does a 7 on the small jump deserver a higher score than a 5 on the larger jump)?

Super curious to see what happens with this and how it gets scored.

I'm intrigued to see how this turns out. If girls aren't pulling drastically bigger tricks, I'm talking if every jump that is usually a 3 turns into a 7, I think it should go by the wayside. Every park that has a pro line also has a medium jump line. It's not like these jumps don't exist for girls to progress on, they just don't in competition. From what I've seen in watching all of the 9 queens videos, yes I've seen every single one, these girls aren't doing much bigger tricks on the smaller jumps than the huge ones.


We'll see. I might sound negative but I'm now I little bit more stoked to get up early on saturday morning to watch the girls.

I completely agree with you but at least its more legitimate than women's snowboarding. That's just painful to watch I remember this years X-Games the 2nd place finisher's biggest rotation was a 540...

I only saw the second runs but no, the girls did not rise to the occasion. It was actually more mediocre jumping than usual.

Yeah screw having two lips on jumps that are so big that almost all the kids on this site wouldn't hit them! Yeah let's just have one big lip so if the weather turns to shit during the comp.,we can see some AWESOME crashes and girls skipping the jumps. Brilliant idea all around!

Girl course only no options and guys course only .. Lindsey Vonn skis a different course than the men. And she makes skiing look good and more girls can try harder and cooler tricks on a on a safer course.

Nice to see that it's still 2004...

The most simple answer to women's progression is to give them what they want and to let them compete at a level they're comfortable with. When they realize that no one wants to watch people win with a 720, the money will disappear more than it has now and they'll start throwing down. Or another girl that throws down will finally be invited to the comps. instead of being purposely ignored and when she destroys everyone harder than when Kaya did, the progression of current professional ladies will increase. But more importantly than that, the younger generation of ladies will be inspired, thus exponentially growing the overall progression of women's skiing...

... or it'll turn into another women's hockey league. Who the fuck knows with women, am I right!?

I don't think so. The role of a women's professional skier is less about how far she can push her skiing and more towards she you can convince other girls to ski.

Look at Grete. (This is why I fucking hate Grete btw.) She makes her money by being a roll model that has the title of pro skier when in fact she's a pro roll model who just happens to be decent enough at skiing to convince people who know nothing about skiing that she is girl power and she is awesome. She is a great at her girl power thing and that's cool but she does it at the expense of her skiing. If she talked more with her skis; I'd give her more respect as a skier. I wonder how much better she could be if she charged as hard as she could everyday. Grete's sponsors follow suit. She has all of her sponsors first because of her girl power influence and less because of her skiing. I would give grete respect if she gave it all in her skiing and inspired the girl's through that. The thing is that probably isn't worth the trade off.

There's a lot of girl's who could kill it harder then Grete if given her sponsor pull. If Grete wanted a jump built, it's going to be built. If Grete wanted to go to Alaska, there would be a heli waiting. If lisa Zimmerman wanted a jump built to learn a second (if she doesn't already have it) dub, it wouldn't happen.

Girl's comps exist because that's all they need to do. For sponsors less concerned about progression than roll modeling, that's perfectly fine. As it's so cheap to add a girls comp when a guys comp is already happening, it's not a loss. I don't see money coming out of girl's pockets anytime soon especially since olympic fever has struck.

All girls extreme sports are more about role modeling than anything. Thats why girls who are killing it like this zimmerman chick are not the most sought after female skier. Its the same in surfing, snowboarding and every other extreme sports that girls have any prevalence in. Sponsors dont look for talent they look for marketability.

9queens happening now.

Lisa Zimmerman, Maude Raymond, and Kaya Turski are there.

Course built for them and damn does it look good (as always).

There are more names there that I think are awesome, but I expect some amazing things to go down from these ladies. So happy to see Lisa there.

Was it 2 years ago now that the winning trick was between two switch 1080's? Pretty sure it will end up going to Lisa with a dub something, but I wouldn't be surprised if some new stuff happens.

Double 720 from Lisa. . . Someone tell her to work on that. I'd probably cry a little.

In regards to the grete comment. She did get second at the world champs. I'm actually kinda bothered about that one. I agree should could be pushing harder. I think she's sort of in the process of leaving the pro ski world and starting a career in the industry, but there is a spot on the Olympic team so things are just getting drawn out.

The problem with womens skiing is there basically just models for sponsers. As long as they can hit big jumps and get a grab for a picture nobody really cares. There just smokeshows. We need some rugged ugly bitches that don't give a fuck to start hucking there meat!

You sound like the sponsors use lady pros to sell product to men. That is why it's irreverent. Kaya isn't on head to sell men's skis. Kaya is on Head to sell women's skis. I think the only women selling men's products in skiing are the Lange Girls and we all know that lange girl's aren't pro skiers.

I'm just going to go on here because that guys post really annoyed me. Salomon uses bobby brown to sell salomon skis. It's not all suspects they are expected to be sold from bobby wearing salomons on his feet. It's even less park focused for girls. Kaya is around to put head skis on girls feet but also to showcase the head name so when the texas oil tycoon is bringing his daughter skiing, she can say that kaya turski is cool and she's on head so I want to get head's as well. Kaya is worth just as much to head if she weighs 100 or 200 pounds as long as 6 times X games gold medalist is beside it. Girls aren't buying skis because she's a model. Girl's are buying skis because they think she's a great skier and this is what she uses.

There is a reason why pro skiers don't have fucking boobjobs...

My mindset for that was more if sponsors wanted to plastic the fuck out of their girls to make them "look better" that they would have already done it by now. Also, lady pros are pros because they can ski and tits, especially huge ones, are not that conducive with physical activity, especially landing after falling 20 feet out of the sky.

And girls will buy head ski's the same reason girls buy expensive clothes. Because other good looking girls wear them. You don't see some chick that looks like a frying pan just cranked her in the face marketing much of anything. Rider/climber triggered avalanches are still a possibility. Also, another storm is on its way with up to 50cm by Fri/Sat. Expect a sudden rise in the danger rating as this starts to occur.

You're right, you win. It makes absolutely no sense that Venus William's sponsors paid her 8 figs last year. What a waste of money. I can't believe that no one would ever want to wear or use the same stuff that the woman who has been on top of the sport for over the last decade uses. If wilson really wanted to sell tennis jackets or Nike really wanted to sell shoes, they should just hire take Upton for the campaign. Why did head even sponsor kaya? I mean she's cute not she's not Bar Refaeli. I bet Bar looks super hot wearing skis.... Every girl would really want to use the skis Bar is using...

haha they aren't even close to the winner. but then again they may have already used their good jumps in the previous rounds, and can't reuse them.

and that gold medal jump was impressive...lay-double full-full...effectively a triple 1080.
