Binding Mod Question

Hi - I've got 2012 K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis + Marker M3 10.0 Bindings.

Basically, the bindings suck. The brakes retract up, but not in (see pic) - and the inside brake levers are constantly catching on my pant cuffs, messing up my turns.

A shop here in New York bent the bindings in as far as they could go, but I am still having the same problem.

I've been told that the bindings are integrated with the ski and I can't swap them out for different Markers on my old Dynastar skis.

Can I just saw off the inside brakes with a hacksaw? And then cover the remaining brake with a rubber nub? Any repercussions?

Note: I am not going to change my skiing style (feet wider apart) to avoid this problem. There are situations on difficult terrain (e.g. steep icy moguls) when I want my skis very close together down the fall-line.

You can do whatever you want to your bindings. 
But, it will probably void your warranty, and impact how well your brakes work(ie stop your skis).


It might be just me, bu a prefer my feet farther apart on steep, icy terrain.  Close together and I tend to fall over.

Thanks, I'm going skiing Saturday (Hunter Mtn.) ONE more time before I decide if the inside brakes get the chop.

Mostly wondering if anyone else has done this.

Take the brake off, bend it further, and then try skiing.  It will be easier to bend in when it's not on a ski.

have heard stories of people cutting off the inside brake arm so they can keep their feet closer together. cant comment on the safety or effectiveness of such a practice but i believe it has been done before.

Probably a fairly meh idea, just learn to ski with legs shoulder width apart. It's a lot more aggressive/athletic stance and in reality gives you more control. The knees together program is totally worthless for anything other than bump comps.

Thanks for the responses. A couple things though:

1 - I'm not a ski tech - I'm not taking the bindings/brakes off myself.

2 - I can and do ski with my feet apart if I'm truly carving turns and weighting the outside ski. I don't have to learn that. But there are numerous situations (narrow line through trees, moguls, etc.) when feet right together are called for. If I see danger coming up immediately I need to be able to perform a skid turn with both skis quickly and this brake issue is hindering that action.

3 - I will get new skis but this is my first year on them - want to get at least 2 seasons out of them.

Skiers Code *Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment* Technically you could get stoped and have your pass pulled for altering your breaks. I doubt it but it could happen. I got stopped at Mammoth when a break broke and didn't want to spot and fix it.
