What kind of set ups do you guys have? i'm looking to get into it more seriously i built my own board but its pretty standard. I'm looking to get into the drifting and stuff so from what I've heard Loaded boards with orangoutang wheels are the best, opinions/advice?

Loadeds are a lot of fun if you are looking for a good slidey cruiser board. I have been out of the long boarding scene for about 2 years due to a broken ankle. I would suggest going into a shop and asking for help. I ride a never summer solider dt now days for just cruising. And then also a BC eel which is probably my favorite board I have ever ridden. And there are so many different types of wheels what kind are you looking for?

Loaded is crazy overrated and overpriced.

Look into Landyachtz, Rayne, and Sayshun.

Loaded boards are good for cruising and casual riding. That is all. Sliding on such a flexible board is too sketchy and downhill is nearly impossible unless you have been doing serious riding for quite some time. My advice is too learn different board shapes and what discipline they are designed for. Then research different trucks and what different degrees will do for you. Then find some wheels that match your riding style. I am personally into fast freeride (sliding, etc.) so I have a Landyachtz Wolfshark, 44 degree caliber trucks and 78a Abec 11 Flashbacks.

My advice is to stay away from expensive brands such as loaded, original and rayne because there are many brands that produce much more durable and well designed boards for much less. Do your own research though. People on NS often give advice without having research to back it up. If you dont do your own research you might end up paying $250+ for a setup that you will soon want to get rid of. PM me if you have more specific questions. Look at the silverfish forums for advice and research.

$250 for a setup is a pretty reasonable amount to pay. My setup cost just over that. I have the landyachtz switchblade, paris 180's, 86a otang stims, and venom SHR double barrels 88a. I'm about to order butterballs though. I wouldn't really recommend the stimulus wheels, they chatter a shit-ton.

iv used loaded for alot of downhill ripping and sliding. im really liht weight and i like how they flex. i dont normaly take myboard over 35mph tho. maybe 40 on steep shit. i ride a dervish with dropthroughs. which im actualy trying to sell becaus eiv out growen lb's. if u still want a loaded for cheap pm me.

i'd look into Ladera Skateboards. Local company from Northern California that makes real nice decks. Also i'd call Black Mountain Sports, a retailer that could help you out with a ton of stuff. They've hooked me up in the past and know their shit. They have a website too and could probably ship out your order.

I would suggest buying a cheaper board to begin with, and figuring out what your style is, if you like to slide, whatever. Or borrow one from a friend. Try to stick with name brands like land yachtz, loaded, earthwing. Stay away from sector 9

I got a arbor axis with paris 180 trucks and what ever arbor puts out for wheels. I just cruse around town though and carve down hills. I don't do any slides. Actually if I had the proper wheels to slide with I'm pretty sure I would eat shit due to the lack of concave.

i have a loaded tan tien and it definitely wasn't worth what it cost. it's a lot of fun for cruising around neighborhoods though. i also have a sector 9 puerto rico which is fun for super tight turns. i need to get a beefier board for sliding and downhill though

Yeah races are fun especially outlaw events which I would normally take part in. Legit races are really fun but they are expensive and I only went to a couple, then I got stopped too many times by police, evaded them my last time since skating is a misdemeanor, and I was not trying to get that $500 ticket which I probably would have considering how many times I got off with out anything and the police new who I was after I took my helmet off that is how bad it got. My friend later got hit by a car lady was being a complete idiot and didn't stop at a stop sign and the police gave him a ticket for reckless endangerment and put him at fault when it was completely the other persons fault. All of that kind of made me cut back on skating and know I use my board as a mode of transportation and get a good run or two once in a while heading out somewhere.

If anyone wants a full face long tail paragliding helmet helmet hit me up its strait thuggin mang.

if you wanna slide go with the otang durians, wheels that are harder slide better and wheels with rounded edges slide better as well.

Don't just get a loaded. Find some metro motions, 80 or 82a, they're quite slidey. Calibers are nice, paris v2s look nice, never ridden them yet. It's more about technique then equipment, anything slides if you do it right.

Not everybody races, but everybody who doesn't race isn't a dudebro mongo pusher frat boy. I've never been in a formal/outlaw race, but I go fast and slide and stuff. I and a lot of other people are far from the bros that ride, poorly, to class to look cool. It's a shitty stereotype.

My setups:

Landyachtz Switchblade w/ Caliber 50's, Bones Reds bearings, and 86a Orange O'tang Stims

Oblique Impact (MN Represent custom graphic) w/ Gullwing Chargers, Bones Reds, and blue 80a Cult Classics

Loaded Bhangra w/ Paris 180's, Bones Reds, and 80a Sector 9 Butterballs.


OP if your looking for slide wheels, look at yellow O'tang Stimulus wheels and maybe the Durian, although the Durian is a little harder to slide at first due to its increased size. You should also look at Cult Classics and Butterballs. They are softer slide wheels which makes them slide smoother and ride smoother. Itll be easier at first on the Stimulus though.

Sorry for double post.

For what deck to buy, look at a stiffer board for learning to slide, aka not bamboo (look for maple boards).

Some brands to check out would be Landyachtz, Rayne, and the non bamboo Sector 9 boards are a good place to start. Also having a symmetrical board isn't really that important to an extent. Its like park skis, a symmetrical park ski can help a bit with riding switch, but its not really necessary, the same is true for longboards.

Another analogy for you, sliding on a flexy pin tail shaped board will suck but its doable. Its like learning to ski in the park with race skis, it just is likely gonna suck.

I'm just pointing out how stupid the law is in my town. $500 ticket and possibility of 6 months in jail one of my friends got that ticket of $500. Of course I wouldn't go to jail but the law is insane. They finally changed it to a $200 ticket. If someone runs a red light or speeds on the highway they may actually kill multiple people including other parties yet the ticket is substantially lower, it makes no sense. Breaking the law means nothing about who is bad ass; you and every other average person break laws everyday.

I'm looking for a new set up. I was thinking a Bustin Sportster with Paris 180s and some Bustin Swift free ride 70mm 78a wheels. I'm looking to do some sliding, carving, and commuting. I already have a dedicated downhill deck. Any thoughts?

I haven't heard a whole lot of good things about Bustin's wheels although that deck and truck combo should be pretty good. If you like softer wheels for sliding I would go Cult Classics if I were you, they have the smoothest slide I have ever felt.
