Hey NS , had the opportunity to get up to the jump in the north face park and pipe series at waterville thanks to some nice guys at north face! it was super cold and dumping extremely hard out that night but I'm pretty stoked on these shots, didn't do much editing at all, but let me know what you like / dislike, what to improve on, ect...
This is my favorite. The others feel to me like the skier is to far away, or that the foreground is too busy. Just my opinion though, I'm definitely not a professional.
none of them are keepers, the falling snow is too distracting and you can barely see the skiers
off camera flash would have help, so would shooting closer, or a longer lens. They are all way too loose
I can't tag along in this debate. One guy tested a strobe he said his pictures came out worse. The light was reflecting straight off the flakes. That's what I based my opinion on.
Yea no one was aloud on the Jump area Becuase of over crowding and judging. You could only stay on the right side of the Jump. I begged to get up there and eventually they let me in Afyer talking to a north face guy. The lights made the snow flakes super reflective so I don't think a flash would of helped alot. I shot on continuous and had around 300 pictures. There's alot I didn't use Becuase I am saving them for a project I'm working on.
The first couple of pictures, it is hard to see the skier. The last two, there is no reference point as far as the jump or landing. IMO, a reference point is good to have.
okay i think you're missing the point of a "critique". you said you are saving some for a project, so does that mean these aren't your best shots? you should be showing your best shots, always
I would have stopped down and put a flash(if there was no other way to get light(what's the exif on them)) as close as I could, also shoot tighter/closer, really difficult to see the guy in all but one.
