Recommend me some better bindings...Pics inside...

Noticed this on my Griffons after riding last weekend:

Basically I've had it with plastic junk.

I'm 5'8" @ 190 lbs and ride about 70% park and 30% all mountain in the northeast. I'm hoping these will last the rest of the season but that's doubtful. I just starting riding park this year but I can spin 3's, slide rails and boxes (natty and unnatty), and I'm working on 270's on. I'm just looking for something more bombproof.

My skis are 2011-2012 Line Chronics currently mounted -2 from dead center.

I thought about going with Jesters as I'm fairly certain they use the same mounting, but after riding this year I think I just want to re-mount my skis at dead center. The skis have only been mounted once so far so I'm not too worried about that.

I don't need something with crazy DIN so I think something in the 14 DIN range would be good (DIN is currently at 8 set by the shop based on my ability.)

Seems like a lot of guys run FKS's or STH Drivers, just wondering what else is out there as I'm still fairly new to skiing.

Open to suggestions, +k for those that help me out.

can you read? he said hes sick of plastic. last time i checked (i own a pair of fks 140s) theyve got a shit ton of plastic, which is everyone's complaint on them............

HEAD/Tyrolia/Fischer/4frnt Mojo/Peak 15s.

The 14 isn't a bad binding, but the 15 is built using their race platform and has metal toe and heel housings.  DIN goes from 5-15, so you don't have to worry about being at the bottom of the release range. 

They're a little heavier, but they're bomber tough.  And cheap.

Salomon STH14 Driver, Marker Jester, Look Pivot 14. Or, if the DIN range suits you, STH16 Steel. My friend has them and they're burly as hell.

STH14, Jesters, and FKS140s all have a ton of plastic, and he didn't want that.

And he stated his DIN was an 8, and STH16s/916s only go down to 9, so they won't suit him either.

Yes, they're also all very durable. It's not like the insides are all plastic. For example both of the plastic parts that OP broke on his Griffons are metal on the Jesters.

Good call about the STH16 Steel, I missed the bit where he says 8 DIN.

FKS 155 if you can find a pair. Like the FKS 180 but without the stupidly high DIN range.

Thanks for all the help guys. +k'd everyone

I really like the feel my Markers give me when I 'click in' so that kinda makes me want to go with the Jesters but I'm not sure if I'm 100% sold.

Looked up Look Pivots and FKS's and to me they look like the same binding. Looks like they have a lot of steel in them but someone else said they are mainly plastic. Would probably go with these depending on if other people chime in with durability.

Looked into the STH drivers and other binding similar to those (peak, etc) and it's def something to think about.

We'll see what happens with my Griffons, since I already have another set of brakes for these (and they are interchangeable with the Jesters), I might just get some Jesters and re-mount them dead center on my sticks.

I broke 2 pairs of Griffons this season. I just switched to FKS and haven't looked back.

While they do still have a lot of plastic, they have steel where it really counts, and I really love my 12's. If you have bad luck with tweaking breaks no matter what the binding; then the STH's are an easy replacement unlike FKS/Pivots. FKS/Pivots are still awesome bindings though.

Good call on the brakes. I grenaded one brake already this season landing switch.

Might see if I can get the Griffons warranted (doubtful on that) and go with the Jesters as they are Magnesium in the spots where my Griffons are plastic and broken. Plus like I said I already have some back-up brakes.

I picked up atomic FFG 16's and they're the beat binding I've ever used. FFG's and Salomons STH if I'm not mistaken,

Yeah Pivots and FKS are the same thing. They do have plastic, but they're also very durable. I have two pairs. The older pair is now going for the third season, on the third pair of skis. Good as new.

Only thing I am skeptical on with those is the brakes. Someone said earlier the brakes are a bitch to change if you brake them.

Pretty sure I am just going to go with some Jesters. Like I said before I already have another set of Marker brakes so if I grenade brakes again, I'm covered.

STH16 and FFG16 are the same binding apart from the colour. Next season when they (Salomon/Atomic), change the heel heel piece to the same one on the Guardian/Tracker, the FFG series is being renamed STH; like salomon.

Jesters are super solid too. Had a pair of them for four years, also still going strong. Just changed the brakes a few times.

they are, i have the pivot 14's mine work well, no pre-release and the time i came out, i did appropriately for what the din was set at i noticed they sorta dumped me out or let me go, they did not have the twisting kinda sheered off feeling that non pivot bindings had

Lets be real, all metal bindings are going to be heavy, and yes strong. But plastic can be just as strong if its built right. I know everyone is posting pictures of broken plastic bindings. Metal can also bend, and depending on the metal and temperature it can even crack. In my mind they are equally efficient.

That is true.

I can deal with the extra weight though. I'm into lifting and I'm not so light myself (190 lbs).

The Jesters use Magnesium which is some pretty strong light stuff. I think its on a similar weight scale as aluminum but a lot stronger. I think the plastic on the Griffons is decently strong, but when plastic gets cold it gets a lot more brittle. I think the cold won't affect Magnesium nearly as much. I know there are a few wheel company's that used to use Magnesium for the centers on their wheels. If Magnesium is strong enough for a wheel center, I'd like to think its strong enough for parts on a binding.

Not trying to argue, just my 2 cents and thoughts about plastic vs. metal.

if I were you, I would go with the Peak 15s. That is your best bet from experience. Last yaer I had some markers and I did mutes all the time. by the end of the season, my edges, which are more dull than a butter knife, chipped into the heart of the mechanism, I knew I was done with markers pre-releasing, the durablitity issues, and the fact that they are expensive for not very durable bindnigs imo. I switched to fks 140s and I love them to death. Beest bindgins ever ridden including the 180s. I know that the 140s have composite toe, NOT PLASTIC, it is very durable, becuase now with my mutes, I tweak them as hard as I can and my goal is to pulls a ski off one of these days. I almost got it last week, But they are still pretty beat up on the toepiece, still in good shape perfomance wise. if you want the full metal binding at best deal and still that click, go with the peak 15

Yes, FKS140/Pivot 14 have plastic toepieces, but they're still built WAY better than the bindings OP has. I have a pair of 14s, and they're bombproof.

FKS or Pivots. Best bindings ive ever had, in the 4 seasons ive had my pivot 14s, my brother has broken two pairs of markers and my buddy ran through markers and sths.

Took them to the shop where I bought them and they warrantied them with no questions asked. Upgraded to the Jesters since they didn't have any FKS' and I wanted to ride that day. I love them so far.
