guess some people have got to be serious about edits! props to you guys who do it

Yeah, the best edits are made from going out and skiing with your friends and putting something together thats not only creative but fun to watch. This workshop kind of kills that vibe in my opinion, you cant really tell someone how to make a good edit, they just have to do it.

i felt like it answered a lot of the questions about filming that pop up on here though

Its a class/workshop which can always be helpful, not trying to hate, just expressing my opinion about "edits".

That being said, I am a perfect example of being self taught, M&A forum wasn't even video/photo driven when I started video, I looked everything up on my own, taught myself everything on my own, kids these days can do it too I just feel like they're lazy and just want the "easy way" to make a good video. Whatever though, its cool they're teaching but I like the idea of a video camp more, like exposure, where kids learn from experience, not sitting in a workshop listening to whatever joe schmo is telling them whats right and whats wrong.

What I'm mostly trying to say is people should stop worrying so much about doing the right thing to make an edit (which is what this whole workshop was about) and just go out and shoot and have fun, thats all I did, thats all alot of people have done. Again, no hate against the workshop I just don't think kids should be focused so much on doing what other people tell them to do, thats all.

i agree the best way to learn is do it yourself, experiment, do stuff wrong, fix it, watch other peoples stuff and see what you can do better

I couldn't agree more, you don't actually learn a whole bunch sitting and listening on someone talk. You can only learn if you are faced with a problem and try and find the solution by your own means. Well at least that is how I did. And most of the basics of filming/taking pictures is mostly logic.

I definitely disagree.  I'd say 95% of the time some pre-planned structure to your edit is going to make it better in the end.  Yes sometimes you wing it a day and it's a homerun but overall having that structure really pulls all the elements of an edit together better.

im with you on that one, heck even if my edits arnt the best, i will keep trying to improve them and make them good, but i know someday ill look back and it will be sick, i find joy in capturing the moments i remember most

If your not making a video for a client, then you should not worry about making an edit that will get the most views and be trendy or keep up with whats popular and be called a good edit. When i go to make an edit it is to be wached and enjoyed by the people involved. Now i don't mean be be lazy and not put in your best work. But make an edit that you enjoy and your friends or people involved will enjoy and make what you want not what is going to be called a "good edit".
