Catching edge on landings

One of my biggest fears whenever I throw anything is landing sideways and getting fucked up. I've done it before on a pretty small jump and it still hurt pretty bad. Is there any way that you can fall like that without cracking your skull open or imploding your brain?

Spot your landing so you are able to revert with ease, pretend you are going to do a shuffle landing bit then bring it around clean.

Land leaning uphill and with your downhill edge up in the air

I know, but sometimes I can't lean into the landing like that. If it does happen, should I just try to lean forward so my head doesn't hit the ground so fast?

Try to pull it onto your ass. It'll hurt your tail bone but will save your head

If you land like that your head is going to slam the fuck into the ground and it won't matter if you're wearing a parachute a jetpack or have a fucking roll cage. It will hurt, and you will hate your life. However, unless the jump is 30-60 ft youll probably still live. Or at least be stretchered away.

If you feel like you will land like that just try to butter it out.

edge control and air awareness can do wonders to prevent it. theres a reason guys like delorme, candide and tanner are all so good and part of that is because this shit is second nature after so much mogul skiing. ski lots of moguls, practice spinning on the snow as your going down really fast, and do slow floaty tricks on big jumps to really own your air awareness. try not to think about it, wear a helmet and be smart about trying new tricks. smart not scared. its probably going to happen eventually though so try to be a man about it.

this is where being an expert skier before being a good park skier comes into play. too many kids these days don't really know how to ski properly (not calling you out OP)

trampolines help with air awareness; its helped me atleast. i can tell easier when im gonna get fucked and can pull out of it faster. edge control is another tho. that just takes experience but this helps a lot thanks!

very true...comfortablity on skis comes with experience and not only this, but style as well...for the most part...unless its natural

I don't think that's relevant. The issue is more popping correctly and setting your rotation, not being a good skier on normal terrain.

Absolutely. Knowing how to ski the whole mountain confidently teaches you a lot about your skis and the way edges perform. It's more of a muscle memory thing than a conscious learning thing. If that makes sense.

you would dislocate your shoulder or break your collar bone way before you smash your skull open.
