wanna purchase a complete in the summertime and i know nothing about skateboard parts and each company's quality. can anyone recommend a durable deck and some decent trucks, bearings, wheels, etc. i want to be skating mostly minipipes and street. maybe a little bit of bowl. domo

Independent trucks, blank wheels, and get your local shop's deck. it's the same as every other seven-ply maple deck and is probably at least 15 bucks cheaper. get Bones Reds for bearings, they're killer and they last forever.

another good deck option: www.beeasyboards.com great decks, great company, great kids. full length video coming out this summer.

or if you're heavy (over 200 pounds) like me, go with the Almost Double Impact deck. they're a bit more expensive but I had one and I didn't throw it away until the plies started delaminating. it never broke, and I weigh about 230.

if you're going to invest in new skate shoes, go with DC. their team is full of a lot of what's wrong with skateboarding, but the shoes last forEVER.

Definitely, the cheapest Bones bearings (Reds) are always the best deal.

I recommend spending $5 more bucks into getting some decent wheels. You usually can make them last a while, so why not get some decent ones, but that's me

There are tons of good deck companies out there. For the skating you're doing you'll probably want an ~8" deck depending on your foot size. I wouldn't spend more than $45-$50.

Personally i like Plan B's decks the best, really nice concave and feel. I just started skating, and only skated two brands, girl and plan b. I really do not like girl;they are bad quality. Paint is chipping......and has no concave.......Trucks, get Independants, they last forever and turn nice. Get lows for street, highs for halfpipe/vert, and mid's for both. I have low's, cause it gives the board a lower center of gravity for better kickflips from what i heard. Some people I know have high trucks for better pop too. Get bones reds bearings, and 'stock' hardware. I would reccamend a street wheel that is hard cause it will last longer and helps with your 180's and spins. They only place I wouldnt reccament a ''hard'' skate wheel is if your local park has wooden ramps/floors cause you would be slipping and sliding.

i've heard that it's good to have your wheels and deck flush when the skateboard's on its side. which measurements need to match up for this to happen?

you're an idiot for skating Vans... they're amazing shoes in every aspect but one; they get absolutely destroyed before you can even notice what's happening. I'll spend the extra 30 bucks on shoes that I don't need to cover with an ugly gel to make them last more than a month.

the axle length and the deck width will have to measure up for this to happen. and don't listen to the kid saying to buy brand name wheels; they're all made of roughly the same polyurethane. what will determine how long they last is the hardness rating. if you're going to mainly be skating street, which I assume you are, I suggest getting something pretty hard. a good way to test this is when you're in the shop, take them out of the package (any legit shop will let you do this if you ask) and drop one on the ground and see how well it bounces. don't get anything that's hard as a stone because they may crack and will get stuck on pebbles, but definitely not anything soft enough to be gouged by rocks or cracks in the concrete.
