Looking for a new pair of skis, anybody have any ideas?

I've landed myself a job as a ski instructor and need a pair of twin tips for skiing backwards for long periods. I want an all mountain ski for free skiing in Tahoe, CA I don't know a lot about park skiing, but want to learn, and love pow skiing when I can. I only have race skis right now so I want something to ski the whole mountain but Im on a budget; around 5 to 6 or lower would be great . I'm about 6' tall weigh around 200Ib and am an advanced skier, (according to myself, I do blacks with some doubles thrown in throughout the day).

Of what I've looked into, I'm leaning toward 2013 line chronics, but not sure because they seem to be more of a park ski.

My other question was what size would I need, I know I'm a big guy, but I can ski a 187 vokkel GS racetiger (2012), although its just a little bit big for me, I handle it just fine. So I was thinking about 180-something would be about my size?

ok tip numero one, DO NOT get line skis, they have shitty bases and do not hold wax well. if you want something a little on the fat side go with some 179 volkl bridges. they are about 95 underfoot, I think and you can get them traditionally mounted because they are made to be. The bridges are amazing for everything, they hold an edge, they carve, they grab easily, and do not be scared by the rocker, it is just a little touch of it and it helps tremendously. look at race compainies all mountain twin tips, but stay away from fisher they make shitty twin tips.

I am really liking my new APO hutches. they are buttery, but still have a ton of pop. And the slight rocker helps prevent catching edges, making shuffles super easy.

So far they have held up through about 30 park days and 3 rail jams showing very little wear. (No edge cracks!!)

the Sammy C pro is sick too. its the same ski, only a bit stiffer, and with full camber.

the biggest size this year is 178cm, but next year I bet they will have them in 181 or 185.

salomon rocker2 92's man! they slay so hard absolutely everywhere. i have the 179's and im 6'3" 180lbs. they good in pow, awesome on groomers and do pretty damn well in the park. they're fucking awesome skis. just get them. i think they're in the $400 range

You must not be that big if you think a 187 gs ski is big. I ski 195's and I'm 5'10"

I would go with probably go with k2 because they make great all mountain twin tips, and like high 160's to 170's range

Amplid=most underrated brand. I used to teach at my local mountain in them. They are perfect. They are durable so the hold up to the little 4 yr olds skiing over them. So playful too. (The skis that is)

If you are looking for cheaper skis, i like surface. They have some pretty sweet new skis. I really like the Blanks, One Life, or Live Lifes. They do just as well in pow as they do in the park

OP, Line skis do not have bases any better/worse than any other brand. They make one park ski with an extruded base that does not hold wax as well, but that's a pure park ski, so it isn't even one you should be considering. I've owned two different pairs of Line skis and have yet to have a problem with the bases in either.

For you, I'd look at Line's prophet range, or the Blends. Both would be a solid all mountain twin.

You don't know what you're talking about. Line has a few skis that use extruded bases, and they are the cheap park skis in their line up. Afterbangs, traveling circus, masterminds and possibly stepups have extruded bases. All the other skis have sintered bases. My chronics have sintered bases and they are super fast, love em.

k2 kung fujas.

perfect all mountain with a 102 underfoot and twin tip for riding switch. Also good for learning park on, in my opinion, once you go fat you never go back, so learning park on a wider underfoot will help.

plus k2 is tough as shit, real good durability

Look into armada, all there skis are twin tips, and they have a lot of skis for different types of skiing.

I myself weigh 210 and have been riding 09 moment reno jibs 181 for the last few years. They are true center and symmetrical. I would recommend them. They are extremely light, poppy, and stiff enough to hold us big men up.

About the bases I'm speaking from experience, I have a pair of 09 anthems and they are good for park, but they just suck for skiing groomers and trees. They never hold wax too

They are a park ski and designed for jibbing at that. They have an extruded bases and cap construction. They aren't designed for skiing groomers/trees or the maximum possible speed.

If you buy more expensive line 'all mountain' models (i.e not Anthems/Afterbangs/Masterminds) the bases are standard sintered bases and they hold wax just fine.
