If it's to take photos: Nikon D3200 and pick up a 35mm f/1.8 while you're at it. The Canon is antiquated and has a vastly inferior sensor. D3200 + 35mm f/1.8 is a killer compact combo for photography.
If it's to shoot videos: skip both and get either a Nikon D5200 or a Panasonic GH2/GH3.
t2i because you can get magic lantern it has a mic jack and if you have any questions there are a lot of newschoolers that have it that you could ask for help
In what way? It allows you to see a whole bunch of different specs on cameras, compare them side by side, and see what the advantages of each are. Obviously you shouldn't pick a camera completely based on snapsort's recommendation, but its an interesting website and can save you loads of time researching and comparing stuff.
