Summer Trip to Hood

This has never been discussed before.....ever.

I know there is a summer pass, but I don't know how much it costs. Pretty sure they have a $99 spring pass for the month of May. I'd like to head out there this summer too... someone drop some hood knowledge for us.

Summer pass is around $900, day tickets are about $55. you work that out and see if its worth it to get a pass.

VRBO is an idea for renting a place if you are old enough (21 or 25 I think). You could try to sublet someones place in Sandy for a month. There is a summer pass and I am pretty sure its not $900 if you get it early. Could be wrong on that though.

soooo fucking true. learned the hard way last summer, rained for 3 days straight. camping is not fun in that much rain

summer pass is 900 bucks. Its not really worth just rolling out for a month, if your trying to get a good bang for your buck its worth saving up 2 grand and dropping 900 on the summer pass and camp for the rest of the summer. Another option would be to try and get a job at timberline. Working a shit night job like dishwashing will get you day tickets for every night you work and you will stack a little bit of paper. Not much to do around govy in the summer but smoke mad chron and drink alota beer but its always fun to head to hood river or portland, the beach is just a 3 hour drive too. Be prepared to deal with long periods of rain, that just makes july and august better though. I highly recommend making it happen. It will improve your skiing and you WILL have the best summer ever!

Pretty sure they have a summer pass. I would suggest hiking up past the top of the lift and skiing down, it's a lot of fun. But be careful, there's crevasses if you go way up. Not sure if there's any risk of snow bridges.

Some solid advice in here. Jobs can be found at both Timberline and Skibowl. There's actually a crew of skibowl employees who camp together at the airstrip (moose poop crew!). Summer pass is $900 no matter when you buy it, and can be found at Timberline's website, as that is the resort that operates on the snowfield.
As far as how long to stay goes, I'd just stay as long as possible. Go from whenever you get out of school to the end of August/when you burn out/run out of money. Best possible situation would probably be if you all find jobs and can rent a house for June-August. Then you're out of the rain and have a party shack (seriously, no one gives a fuck as long as you don't trash it or get violent). I don't know about house options, since I work at MHSSC and don't have to worry about that, but there are a shitload of houses in Government Camp and Rhododendron.
As far as apres skiing activities go, it depends on how much money you have to spend on gas. PDX and Hood River are both about an hour, to the west and to the east, respectively. Here's a list of some activities:
Govy:
-partying every night in town and the airstrip
-MTB trails including a bike park at Ski Bowl (and possibly Timberline as well, though that may still be another year away)
-some hiking
East side:
-punchbowl cliff jumping with a u-pick cherry orchard nearby/on the way
-skate park in Hood River
-windsurfing too I guess
-probably bike trails here too
-hiking
West side:
-more hiking
-park with river access/fields and shit-where MHSSC goes every Wednesday for barbecue
-bike trails including super D shuttle possibility from Govy to Rhododendron (apparently it's really fun)
-movie theater, bowling and disc golf in sandy
-Saturday market in PDX is fun. Good people watching and random food and shit
-More and probably bigger skate parks in PDX as well
-ON3P factory tour. I took some campers on it last summer. They're usually happy to do it unless they're in production mode.

Hope this helps. This is the product of my summer knowledge and experiences, which are heavily influenced by what MHSSC does, so I'm probably missing stuff. Definitely be there for the 4th. Shit gets cray. Fireworks all over Govy and lots of drunken fun/stupidity.

Look out for " the hood crew". Not sure if you have heard of them or not but they blare degrading, vile rap music and "smoke spliffs" on the ski mountain. Like this is a family place. Get a grip, losers!

Hoods dope to ski, though. I had 10x more fun lapping the t-line public park than the windells lane when I went a few years ago. I couldn't fathom the fact they had like an 8 jump line in the middle of July weeks after. It was dope.

Hell, I've seen people go from the top of the Mile. That would be crazy. 15+ mile DH ride with like 6000ft elevation loss. Shit!
Also a slightly relevant story: our camp director Mike Annett has been known to ride from our campus 5+ miles down the east side, all the way over Govy to the state park, on an 80s road bike, without a helmet. 70 years old and zero fucks given.

I'm driving up to hood in a month by myself from colorado, i can pretty much live out of my jeep and will be bringing my mtn bike and skis. Most likely will stay at the airstrip, i've never been around the hood area and don't really know what to expect. but i'm super stoked and just going to wing it!

In addition to this, taking a trip to the coast is really fun and not a bad drive. Find a place to camp for the night on the beach and go surfing (the water is freezing though so rent a wet suit if you do this).
