So, I am buying a 97 civic ex for $400 as a project. Runs perfectly but the alarm is stuck on and they dont know how to turn it off. I do. Yes, red flags go up with this, but they have title in hand and an id to match the title so I am assured its not stolen.

Anyway, I am going to be working on it but do not want to try to put a turbo on myself (very easy to screw up). What should I do before selecting a turbo kit (as in compression test the motor etc) or should I drop in a new motor? The stock ex motor can handle about 4-7 pounds of boost right?
Im not looking to break any speed records, I just want a nice quick project car for my first import project.
What else should I do or look for before pulling the trigger on a turbo install?

Oh, that's right. I didn't...but I am able to appreciate a sporty FWD car/hatch for what it is. You seem to think that just because you drive a base model A4, you have supreme knowledge and experience regarding all FWD and AWD cars, though I guarantee you've never taken your car, or any other car, to its limit. The only time you've ever even noticed you have AWD is in the snow, because you probably drive like a retard and rely on it to keep you on the road. Get back to me after you've driven a car on the track, instead of judging your driving "experience" based on how fast you can get from 5-40 from a stoplight.

Im not saying I have any supreme knowledge of anything, you asked what car i had and I answered. I've driven plenty of quick cars that are rwd/fwd/awd (g37s/audi s4/audi a6/335i &xi/trailblazer ss/jeep srt 8/challenger srt 8/mercedes c350/volvo s40/various fwd turbo saabs).

I drive an A4 because It is comfortable, good on gas, comes with a manual gearbox and handles extremely well for what it is. And girls love it when I pick them up on dates. I don't pretend thats it's some sort of be all and end all of cars because its not. And i'm not basing my opinion solely off driving one car which is what you seem to think. Would I like to get something faster that I can mod? Fuck yea! Is it feasible or financially responsible at this point in my life? no. I enjoy my car for what it is, a simple, comfortable, sporty sedan.

I can appreciate a sport hatch too, they just aren't my preference and FWD has never been something i've ever really enjoyed because of the understeer and torque steer. Even on the low HP cars I've driven its still there. and to address your awd in the snow comment I live in Florida so Its all sun and rain no snow

my homie drives a 97 ex (basically stock) haha, gets good gas mileage but it's a total beater. i laugh my ass off every time i see a modded ex, so i suggest you mod yours, shit's hilarious

anti lag exhaust- what the fuck is that, anti lag has nothing to do with the exhaust except for burning cats, its just tweaking your software to continue to dump fuel in to keep the hotside spinning, which no offense does absolutely nothing except make you look like a tool in between shifts

Here's some advice for the OP... Civics are shit and a joke, cars are the worst investments you can make and interest on loans means that you're literally throwing money away because you feel like senselessly living beyond your means.

I bought it only with coils and wheels and the bov.

The engine WAS a stock WRX engine with a Larger STi Turbo but it blew due to a bad gasket. The oil was burned through completely in a month and finally another head cracked.

And also at 17.5-18 PSI An anti lag exhausts works by reducing the amount of lag a turbo has when spooling,It keeps the turbo spooling even if there isnt enough air pressure/exhaust. My last turbo split in half for this same reason. 12.5 PSI is MAXED for a STi turbo, and like i said im running 17.5-18, I do NOT want my turbo to crack again due to fluctuations in pressure.

If i look like a tool for wanting to keep my engine running efficiently then so be it.



This isnt a race car, its my project, my first car, my baby, its a fucking grocery getter.

I'll be trading my 08 srt8 300 for a 13 sti soon. Unlike the youngsters on here and yourself i will likely only tint the windows in the sti. Ive been there and done that with throwing money away on mod'in cars...

I'm thoroughly impressed. I haven't really heard of anyone outside of WRC running actual antilag like that. Running that amount of boost might be a bit of overkill, along with having that, but major props on the build. Definitely a pretty sick ride. What's your instagram?

I think I had a pretty valid reason to be skeptical. Who the fuck claims a BOV as a mod when you're running a twin turbo engine swap?

Hes not, he cant. An ej20tt (really an ej20H) came out of a 97+ JDM legacy gt, which has way more room to work with in the engine bay than a wrx. The TT setup would never fit in there without modification somewhere. Also anti lag doesnt have jack shit to do with your exhaust, its all about your engine management system. Anti lag is just a map on your ECU that causes your car to backfire and thus keep your turbo spooled. Garrett, to my knowledge, has never made a turbo called a R30. They have made a GT30r if thats what he meant, but if he doesnt know what kind of turbo he has then that further proves that he doesnt know about his car. Im calling shenanigans and asking for a build thread or something.
