Tips for a Gaper like me

Question is: when can i start hitting park and pull tricks n shit?

Probably a cock ass question to pull but just being curious

also: bonus question: im 5'9 is 164 atomic punx too small? (125$ tho)

ill tell ya what if you wanna be a fuckin shredder. shred the groomers. work your way to blacks by like the next time you go and just bomb them. carve them them all day till your turning like butter and leaning forward like its nothing. then practice some switch here and there and get more comfortable riding backwards. then once your form is good and you can ski, hit the park and you will progress like wallisch

Center mount your Punx, but don't get them detuned. The length really depends on your weight as well as your height, but since you're going pretty easy right now, I suggest you get them. For the park, you need to know park etiquette (i.e. no standing in front of features etc) You need to be able to ski properly so you're not falling down and messing up other people's day. Trust me, we get a lot of gapers at our hill and it fucking sucks. Basically, stay within your limit at first, progress at a pace you feel comfortable with. If you're solid on jumps, try spins, but be warned that learning tricks can have consequences. That's about all I keep in mind for park skiing. Good luck.

Butter boxes will actually help out a lot.

Go on 50/50 (tips forward on skis) with you skis about hip width apart and then try to pivot your feet to 90. Speed is not your friend initially. Keep it slow and try to keep your hands in control. This helps you to learn how to steer the ski.

Hit some beginner jumps where air is not mandatory. Basically avoid anything that has a big table. Go slow and work on smooth pop off the jump. Keep your hands in front of you and out to the sides for balance.

These are some good things to start out with, but the main thing is just to ski and keep challenging yourself with new things.

Get the basics down first (I.e turns, edging, all that shit) then go toy around with the park. Oh and ski for the sake of skiing. I feel thats where most skiers to wrong now a days. Do it for fun.

Thats a really dumb statement but whatever.

Get bigger skis, those skis are too small and youll grow out of them, Just go learn all your tricks on the tramp and then water ramps and then an air bag and then be pro!

Thats how it works now right?

I'm kinda kicking myself. When I bought my park skiis I told the guy I liked to ski groomers 50% of the time but nowadays I spend all my time in the park.

I am 5'6 and he recommended 169s but I see guys like 5'10 riding 150s and they say it is so much easier.

Should I downsize on my next ski?

if you instinctively go to snowplow to stop or slow down you're not ready yet.
if you ski parallel with your feet farther apart than your shoulders you're probably not ready yet.
if you're skiing in the back seat (ask a friend), make sure you consciously avoid it cause you're not going anywhere with backseat habits.

but once you get into the park it's almost the same as snowboarding. only difference really is being forward/backward instead of sideways.

you'll also probably find it easier to land on jumps than with a snowboard (when you land forward anyways). another handy upside to skiing is that now when you land sideways you'll eject instead of digging 3 inches into the snow and slamming your head really hard. actually you can still do that, but the chance is minimized.

Switched from board to skis last year. Dude jibbin' is easier on skis. When you approach the rail/box /whatever just picture your feet in the position they would be in to 50/50 on a snowboard. The balance is the same.

Look at the end of the rail and rotate your hips as you come off to land regular/switch. Pop 180's off EVERYTHING, seriously do this a couple times a run. It has been getting me more comfortable landing/riding switch.

Other than that, just fucking send it. The only thing I have had problems with is translating my spinning over to skis. I can't carve off the jump the same way and it's destroying my rotation. Inverts are easier on skis. Grabs seem harder.

Downsize if you want to do gay penciled future spins. But if you actually want an oz of style, stick with what you've got. I'm like 5'7 and I ski on 166s and they're fine.

as soon as you're comfortable riding around fast and can 180 on the ground i would say. start real small and just get comfortable riding rails and boxes, then start hucking 270s out. From there, keep progressing.
