What is the difference between a Rodeo 5 and a Flat 5?

I keep seeing pictures and video of Flat 5s and Rodeo 5s and I see no difference between the two tricks. Can anyone explain the difference to me? Thank you NS!

false rodeo are more flippy....
but really there isn't much of a difference, one person might call it a rodeo another might call it a flat.

rodeo you're completely inverted at some point in the rotation, flat 5 you spin perpendicular to the ground with your body "flat" feet never directly above your head im pretty sure

They're pretty similar, but a flat spin is flatter. A true flat spin will have your back parallel to the ground at 180, and your feet don''t rise above the plane of your head at any point. A rodeo is more "flippy" and your feet will be above your head.

Rodeos ideally are fully inverted at some point. Flats are more, well.. flat. When you see each of them thrown according to textbook, it's pretty easy to tell the difference, however, most are usually in some sort of grey area between the two.

So its just pretty much how you position your body in the air. Rodeo your head goes below your feet and flat spins you don't get inverted at all. Do you throw each trick in a similar manner? How do you do a flat 5 instead of a rodeo?

i was really commenting on how many flat spins are thrown with japan, while i see a lot of safety/critical with rodeos. however yeah grabs do have a factor in body placement

And I can't find a great picture for a rodeo, but you can see in that picture^^^ that the guy is parallel with the flat ground below him. If it was a rodeo, he would be upside down in the middle of the sequence.

If your head goes below your feet on a horizontal plane, then it's a rodeo. If not, then it's a flatspin. Most people don't do TRUE flatspins, because they're harder to throw than ones that are a little inverted.

for a rodeo you end up sending your shoulder more forward the higher spin you throw.

a flat 3 or rodeo 5 is pretty vertical, however, once you start tossing higher spins in there, you throw your shoulder pretty much forward.

in this video, 4:08 is pretty much what i'm trying to talk about. obviously it is a rodeo 10, but i think one could make a debate that it could be a bio 10.



also take a look at chris logans trick at :47, what would you say that is?

The difference between then is when he goe for bio the first 360 is already in bio position where as with rodeo it completely back

That one is bio, see how when he's spinning off axis at first his head is out in front of his body, that's classic position for a bio

Off axis but not a cork, also that is a 12 not a 9, I would call that a bio.

Honestly, like I said, I'm just trying to explain myself, I would never call a rodeo 7 a bio 7 because, I've never seen a bio 7 lol.

I think people are to anal about the difference between rodeo's and flat five's, I just count them flat five's as rodeo's.
