Photo Critique Anyone?

I know next to nothing about photography, but I'd like to learn a little more so I can take better pictures on climbing and backpacking trips. I have a basic point and shoot, and don't really want to invest in and carry around a DSLR so I'm kind of limited with what I can do with my camera. But if anyone wants to give some suggestions on what I can change or work on I'd really appreciate it!

The first one's a little oversaturated but it looks nice. I like the composition with the mountains in the background in the right and the hill/grass on the left, but having the people in the middle makes it kind of hard to look at. If you had waited for them to be further to the right or more to the left it would have looked better IMO.
I like the second one also, but again its kind of oversaturated (meaning the colors are too strong, the grass too green and the sky is too blue, it looks weird).

The third and fourth ones are decent, but the shadow ruins them and is a big distraction.
The third one especially, the top of the mountain looks good, but hten having the bottom darker and gray makes it really weird looking and you can't look at it without focusing on that line between them.

     Looked like a great trip! I agree with previous poster on all of them. One thing I would like to add is I find there is a little too much head room on the second one, I find all the sky with not much going on in it takes away from the great landscape you have to the left of your subject. Bringing it in a little tighter would have helped stand him out too!
     You mentioned that you have a point and shoot so controlling exposure and things like that can be difficult, but I would recommend researching a bunch on photo composition if you wanna help improve you photos :) This can get away from that "snapshot" look and improve your pictures a bunch!
