Widescreen crop vs. full screen

What do you guys like more?(regarding skiing mainly) Personally if I think it is filmed right the widescreen crop can make an edit look amazing, especially with movies where you're watching it on a TV, what do you guys think?

for example imo this was a terrible edit to have the widescreen crop for

this one is great with the crop,

Honestly it really depends on the edit and the vibe. When you shoot for the crop it makes a huge different but tossing followcams into a crop is tricky because 99% of the time you're not watching your framing while following you're just guessing/trying to just get the shot. It can work if you shoot well but honestly ive seen a bunch of random dudes make 2.35 crop edits earlier this year and they call cut off heads/feet and overall misused the crop.

I really liked using a crop for my action reel and for my pc morning edit but otherwise ive been pretty content with 16:9

yeah I always do it too, its nice having that feature with ML on the T2i, I pretty much always plan to use the widescreen crop but if I fuck up my framing or the shots are shaky or whatever I wont use the crop, or i wont use the shot.

If you're going to crop, you need to frame/compose that way. You can't just film in 4:3 and then decide to crop it to 2.35:1, that's going to look ridiculous.

You can either use ML or tape the LCD so you can frame according to the crop

Kalum Ko's new urban edit has probably one of the best uses of a crop I have seen. Can't embed because it's private.

depends on the style of the piece but i am a fan of both if the composition is done right for the frame style

I have been playing around with them a bit and I always like them at first but then I always decide that they make it look like I'm trying to make the edit something it's not
