Secondly, are there any other programs which I should be using alongside premiere pro to further improve my edits? I have heard of after effects but wasn't completely clear on whether that's an alternative editing tool, a program which runs alongside premiere pro or a finishing suite etc. If you think there are any other programs I should be using, links to their sites/torrents would be great.

I'm not going to say that I've exhausted the potential of iMovie. I didn't spend that long on any of them, but if I was using an editing suite which had more versatility I think I'd probably end up editing to beat more and it being a less sequential shot style. I just find it a bit of a mission on iMovie
