in a few recent ski/snowboard vids. I've seen people using the gopro 3 and "the frame" mount obviously w/o the case. I can understand this would be ok in -5 weather and sunny, but wb lower temps. And if you bail? Just wondering if the new gopro is snow proof w/o the case now, or the pro's are sponsored at dont care if they wreak the gopro. Thoughts? Opinions?
oh alright. i would guess that the video/sound quality is a little better, and these clips might be used for ads. probably only happens in park shoots where there is less chance of getting them wet/covered in snow
tons lighter, better sound, a little better video because no lens blocking it, and it also is not waterproof so it could break. If you fall its broken but they are pros so they dont fall alot wich means it most likely wont break. If it does they get one for free because they are sponsored. So unless you never fall or are sponsored its not worth the risk.
i just wouldn't risk it. they are sponsored so it doesn't matter to them, but to me it matters a lot. not worth losing $400 for slightly better sound and barely noticeable change in video quality
Cameras that are Gopro sized are a lot more snow resistant then people tend to think. It's not going to short out if it falls on some groomed snow, powder, or even spring snow as long as you pick it up in a few seconds.
I would be more concerned about it breaking if it falls though.
I've been waiting for a light snowproof case, the current case is rated to something ridiculous like 50m underwater. Their mass produced case is made for surfing and diving, NOT skiing. Someday I'll bet that this need gets satisfaction.
