Help with a bricked ipod touch (won't turn on or charge, not recognized by my computer)

Probably not the best place to post this, but whatever. My ipod touch 4th gen 32gb has suddnely stopped working and won't turn on or do anything. The battery's dead, but when I try to charge it (I've tried 3 different chargers, usb and wall charger) the screen just stays black and doesn't do anything. I left it 'charging' for over a day straight and it still wouldn't turn on. I've only had it for a few weeks and its not physically damaged as far as I can see.
Also, when I try to plug it in to my computer it just says 'device not recognized'. No matter what I do it just stays with the black screen. I tried doing the 30 second power and home button thing to reset it, but nothing happened.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I'll take it to the apple store when I get a chance, but they're probably just going to say i need to buy a new one or something.

How long have you had the ipod? Also many people don't know this but overcharging things such as phones, ipods, and laptops can literally fry the battery. If that's the case you'll have to just send it in and have the batter replaced.

Well I charged it for the normal time (just for a few hours) and then I took it out and it wouldn't tun on so I figured the cable was broken. Then I used the wall charger for overnight and then next morning it didn't work and i kept it charging and now it still doesn't work. I don't think it would have died from over charging for just those first few hours.

I literally got it like a month ago, and have only used it a little bit. How could it have died so quickly?

If only stupid apple had let us get at the battery and replace it ourselves... -.-

You could try putting it into DFU mode, it's a long shot but if it is frozen this could work. Follow the instructions here http://theiphonewiki.com/wiki/DFU_Mode. If that doesn't work you may need to take a trip to the apple store.

Weirdly enough my brother's iPhone got all fucked up and his PC wouldn't recognize it once. I plugged it into my mac, which recognized it, and then from there I could restore it to factory settings. Try plugging it into a Mac?

I've had this happen with a couple of iPods and there was nothing I could do to fix it.

Plug it in to the computer and do the home and power button reset thing at the same time. It will make the computer recognize it as a iPod in "recovery mode" I've had to do it a few times and it always has worked. If that doesn't work it sounds like you're problem is beyond fixing yourself.

I tried that, but I think I may be doing it wrong. I held the power and home buttons both for 10 seconds and then put in the cable attached to the computer (also tried with the outlet), but it still didn't even turn on or anything.
I guess I'll just take it to the apple store. :/
Can't believe this POS could have broken this fast.

Yeah I tried that before and it didn't work.
But I took it to the apple store today and apparently both of my charging cords were broken, lol. I got a replacement cord and it works fine now, lmao. Never thought that the cords could be the problem.
