Hey guys I've just started skiing recently, (5 days so far) and I'm looking to get a park ski and I've had my eyes on the 2013 atomic punx. Would you guys recommend this for a beginner ski? Also which size, I'm 6'1" 150lbs would you recommend the 173 or 182, and if not the punx what would you recommend? Thanks.
You only just started, so i would either buy something used or just rent stuff for now, because if it turns out you won't ski that much you would have wasted a lot of money. But if you decide to buy skis anyways, you are pretty tall so i would definetly go with the bigger skis. Besides that do yourself a favor and learn how to ski properly and not just park. I have actually never skied the punx, i am using the Völkl Bridge and I am very happy with it, works all over the mountain very well.
I currently have the zuma park 2012 165cm, but i feel they are too small, at the time i bought them they were the tallest the store had, but money isn't too much of a problem I have a steady job, and next season I hope to get a job on my local mountain to ski a lot more. And i feel pretty comfortable on most terrain except trees, can't seem to move my skis how the way i need to in the deeper snow, any tips would be appreciated!
I would say punx are fine for beginner park skiers. They are poppy and pretty playful. 182s for sure. Also may I suggest getting this years punx at an end of the year sale if possible to save some money
The punx are definitely a ski one can grow into for sure. Its stable and strong yet playful. Its also fairly narrow compared to most park skis at 82mm so it is very nimble edge to edge. I wouldnt call it stiff and i wouldnt call it a complete noodle. Its durable too so it will last long as you progress.
My friend has the 2013 punx, and says they are way stiffer than the 2012 ones, almost like a pipe ski. Try looking into buying used stuff for first skis, they save you a lot of money + you can use them as urban skis if you really get into skiing.
Yeah that's weird, all the reviews that I've read say it's just about the most playful ski out there i wonder what he's comparing it to, also my town never gets any snow, so not much interest in urban. Has anyone ridden the domains?
I dont know how it can be about being clueless when one day he skis the 2012, then the next he skis the 2013 ones, and they feel much stiffer? But yeah whatever, they are still a great ski.
3 friends with k2 press as first ski...tried them...just dont...such gay skis as goes for domains i would swoop on some on3p filthy riches 176 i think they are! or armada thalls or ar7s ! or punx are sweet or nordica ace of spades are what i just got il let you know how they are or line step ups or chronics are sweet
but really though, do take some lessons to learn how to actually ski. i really would not recommend doing park stuff when you barely know how to control yourself on the planks

i would look into some used skis but i would not just buy some super cheap ones. it may seem like a good idea but you are better off spending the money now and having durable skis that you can use for a while
