Hey peeps, this is my first post here!  So please be nice and thanks for taking the time to read

Would just like some quick advice.  I'm from the UK and l am probably about to buy some salomon rocker 92s.  The shop with the best price is offering the Salomon STH 12 (not driver) for an extra £70 ($110).  no others are offered in a deal.
My question is should I just go for these as the price is pretty good?  or just wait and get some bindings from somewhere else? 
all i want is something that holds up when landing (Don't we all) and is fairly light.  I'm kind of on a budget.  The marker bindings i have on my old public enemys kept kicking me out when landing switch

I ski on/off piste, fairly agressively and dabble in the park/some rails.  I'm 6ft 12 stone (170lb)

I'd heard the driver versions were ok but don't know about the standard STH's

binding's shouldn't give you to much trouble, it's the skis you'll be worrying about.

if your bindings are kicking you out when you land hard then check your DIN settings. they may be wrong, but make sure you get proper professional advice on that and don't mess around with it yourself.

at 6 foot, i would get skis which are at least 182cm if possible, but if you want them for all mountain and/or powder, then even longer than that.

what price are they offering the whole package at?

They are offering the skis and bindings for just under £400 ($630).  I'm aware this is more than they cost in the States, but in the UK your options are slightly more limited as there is less competition to keep the cost down.

Believe it or not, for the last 2 seasons + a few weeks i have ski'd in the french alps on my 164 public enemy's and have absolutely loved them.  I loved being able to do short tight turns as well as 5/6 meter drops into steep pow.  rails were ok and even did a couple of modest kickers (people were pulling double flips 4/5 secs air time) but just straight air's for me, and that even scarred the shit out of me. Speed on the groomers has never been an issue as i was clocking around the 70 mph mark (according to iphone gps).  The only time i felt like i needed some extra length was when the powder was deep and not that steep.  Saying this I have never ski'd on a a freestyle ski that has been on any longer to know what its like on the flip side.  I ski'd 175 nordica race machines or speed machine, and at the time did'nt feel like id ever want anything longer on my feet.  Tried for 10 mins my mates scott crusades 185 and i could barley ski on them, it was a bit icy though.

Will i only benefit from the extra length when in the powder?  and if i were to be doing the big jumps? (may not get to do this again as not working seasons again).  Does it make it easier or harder for doing cheeky jibs?  what about smaller stuff like just doing a little 360 off a ledge with not much air time?  buttering, easier or harder?  or is there not much difference as swing weight should be more centralized if mounted closer to centre?  
My knowledge of this is pretty limited as most of my mates back home are just leisurely skiers, as in rent any old kit, and working in France, conversions couldn't get too deep because of the old language barrier.


With my dins, i have played with them, set them to what the proper marker chart recommended, and then gradually raised them maybe 3 levels, they are much better, just have the grief when coming off a rail switch.  I've been through 3 brakes though and have had to hammer metal back into place haha.

Think i got a bit carried away with this but thanks for reading haha (if you get this far)

Good to see more british skiers on here!

What do you set your din at? I would imagine you'd be on the upper limits of a 12 din binding, sth 14 drivers(people say they have a much better toepiece, and that the normal one is weak in comparison) is less than the sth12 drivers, but the sth14drivers are still £150. £70 is a good deal, who's doing that? but I'd rather get a good binding and have it last.

Also if you're still using your markers and need brakes I can send you a set of marker brakes that if you snip away a small notch on the front should fit royal family bindings.

Another good possibility is get these(don't spend more than 60/70) and harvest the look pivot(not the 360 degree ones) off the skis, they're good bindings(better than your markers definitely) and they'll be very cheap if the price doesn't go up, only problem is you have to collect them, but you're in the same county

Just to conclude i have gone for some rossi axial 2's and some chronics and im sure il be happy.

The binding situation with my markers - i need to wind them up, ive been skiing on a 6 din, which is probably a bit low.  I've just read a diffferent marker chart with instructions and it came out 8....

Classic case of when, you shouldn't dabble if you don't know what your doing haha
