today the rear piece of my binding came out while i was skiing. it just snapped right off while i was going pretty fast and thus i ate shit.
i'm wondering if this is going to be repairable, and whether it's possible that water has gone into the core already, causing the binding to break, and also if water could have gotten in today after the bootpiece snapped off and my ski went and landed in a pile of snow.
i had the piece which came off, but i think i may have dropped it somewhere outside my car when i was loading up to drive home. can't find it, anyway.

i should also mention that the three screws which were attached to the rear piece had wood in them, which makes me think that maybe the wood was rotten or wet.
Binding pull out is a bad thing. Vibes bro. Contact your local shop. If they can't do anything contact warranty for the ski manufacturer. You're core might be rotten, in which case you're screwed. I'm gonna be honest man, doesn't look too bright. How old are the skis and what are they?
It sometimes happens. Sucks but not the end of the world. If you have the piece, take it to a shop. You can either fill those holes and remount the heel with a different position on the track (assuming not fks) or helicoil he holes and reuse them. As long as the core is not rotten you're fine
Let them dry out thoroughly in a nice warm place and then try and redrill the homes for quiver killers, google them. Jons ski tuning in Nottingham sell them. If the core is fine (fingers crossed) this will be no problem and should be a solid repair.
May have posted the message below in wrong section, sorry all. Anyway, any help appreciated. By the way, how do you check if the core is rotten? And would a plate or similar help?

Resurrecting an old thread since suspect am facing the same issue. Must admit am not very clued up on ski tech matters though and don't have a huge amount of faith in my local ski shops, am in rural Ireland, they tend not to face anything too challenging! So any experts out there, your help is appreciated.
I ski Whitedot Preacher 179s with Marker Griffon bindings and worked last season in Kaprun Austria. Literally last run of the season the heel piece sheared off while coming back to resort on a blue. Was damned lucky, had spent all morning off piste on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier....
Anyway, need to decide if these skis/bindings can be repaired and if so how hard I can push them next season. As I hope you can see from the pics there's some evidence of rusting in the screws. Had gouged the bases pretty deep on some rocks a month or two before the binding failure, although I took them to the shop promptly am wondering if some water might have got into the core before the bases were fixed, or if there was some other reason for the failure? If there was water in there, will that compromise the integrity of the skis permanently, or prevent the bindings from being safely remounted?
If I do get them remounted then how far back would I need to ask the shop to go, and how should they treat the cracking you can see on the top sheet?
Sorry if these are daft questions but have adored these skis since I got em, it's probably gonna be Canada for me next season so something reliable in backcountry is a must! Cash is tight but safety paramount....

Were they already mounted with helio coils? If so that is weird if it was the first mount. I don't think I'd trust that shop too much either.
Possible that an expert can put a bigger plastic insert in the hole and use the same hole. Remount is another option.
I'd probably just find an expert in Canada and make arrangements to get the work done there. It will be easy for a pro.
If you like DIY stuff you can find instructions online. TGR has some threads on this.
Park skiing is really tough on skis/bindings. No matter what the tech does, the screws will eventually loosen. Check that the screws are hand tight every now and then. The real problems start when the screws get a little loose and then start to vibrate. Water usually doesn't make it very far into the core in these situations. If the core is rotten under the holes, just plug them and move the binding.
