Pitch in to help me find a backpack.

My Dakine Heli Pro is finally starting to show some signs of wear.  After ten years.  Its older than Facebook. And the L shoulder strap is starting to tear. Pretty bummed

I would get another, but with college comes bigger books.  I need something that I can haul some serious gear to campus with every day. 

I like the look of the Hershel Little America, but I have heard the quality is trash.  I am now thinking about a Dakine Vault, either the 25 L or 23 L size. If you know of another backpack with similar design as either of the previously mentioned bags, recommendations are appreciated. 

If anyone has a Vault and can comment on it, that would be great.  if anyone wants to sell me one good condition, even better.

If anyone has any ideas of other backpacks I might want to look at, please post up.

Contact them and see what happens. At least back then from what I remember they had a life time warranty. My old heli pro is still my favorite pack ever.

It has a lifetime warranty you can contact them and get a new one i think.

i have had great luck with oakley packs, for skiing and for school/ work stuff. they have a lot of models to choose from, youll look different and the quality is amazing. i have the big original icon pack for school shit etc. and the oakley snowmad 20 pack for skiing, best skiing pack ive ever tried on or worn. fits so nice i actually ski with it everyday now, and i used to HATE backpacks. but ya ive been thru too many Dakines, to be honest im supprised urs lasted that long, no matter what model of dakine i got it always was fallling apart after a year or tw0. also my oakley icon pack ive had for 3 years and my snowmad for about a year and they still look and perform like new. right down to every zipper and snap etc. good luck buddy

thats true, but its different since I purchased through a shop...the website says you need to go through the retailer if that is the case, but thanks anyways for the heads up..

When i bought my backpack for school the guy told me i could bring it in anytime if it broke and showed me one that a guy returned the day before. I'm not completely sure though but it's worth a try.

na man its not like that. Googling backpack brings millions of hits, and a very small percentage would interest me. I am simply asking other like-minded people what they have seen and like, and to let me know about it, maybe I will like it too. I dont understand why so many people get up in arms about this stuff, its a community based forum website. So Im drawing on the community for ideas via forum. Doesnt seem so out of line when you just take a moment and rationalize.

but srsly, thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I appreciate it.

I bought the original pack in Whistler like 10 seasons ago, and I am interested in something bigger, so a new backpack is a must. Great ideas tho!

Ive had my north face bag for 10 maybe 12 years now and its still going strong.  Beat up, but its traveled everywhere with me and used every day at points, great bag.

YO, you should check out Mystery Ranch packs - I'm a big fan of the Fuze Pack myself. They're made in Bozeman, Montana if I'm not mistaken. Super good quality....they come with a decent price, but these things will last forever...

bumpity. still struggling to find a 23-25 L bag with buckled top flap made out of waxed cotton, canvas or some other equally durable material.

this is as close as I have come, but (sue me for being picky) the shoulder straps dont look very secure at the bottom....http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?cid=502&pid=TYX0

This. My boyfriend works production for Mystery Ranch and he says they're pretty much the best packs ever. They don't skimp on anything.

they are the most fucking bomb proof packs I have ever seen. They're actually designed and built by skiers here in the USA....not put together by some pre-pubescent chinese girl in a factory half way around the world.

i honestly don't understand why anyone would ever buy anything other than a mystery ranch pack. it probably has to do with the fact that they're close to two bones. But it's really not a big deal to drop loot like that on a pack that will last you for the rest of your life....imho, at least.

that's sick that your boy toy works there. Great group of people in that company from what I understand.

Just so you know the bottom of all jansport packs is like that, and its actually a very durable stitching that connects the bottom strap to the pack. I have one next to me with the same straps and it has held strong through 3 years of abuse, no signs of wear at all.

A bigger pack can always be made smaller with compression straps, a small pack can't be enlarged.

I'd make an NS thread, he's most likely a outdoorsy guy like the rest of us and wants a pack relating to that. Plus w/ backpacks, user reviews are the best way to get something good
