Personally I am always super stoked on this. Its actually my favorite skiing competition of the year. They also changed up the format and now the top 10 finalists all get an invite to the Sun Valley park shoot in april. Over the week level 1 will drop updates, and then will create a segment for the new movie. I think that this change in format is a great idea, and hopefully will help draw great talent and seperate the boys from the men.

I predict some entries from Hood Crew and Toy Soldiers, but I think the winner will be an unknown who really needs the exposure and $$$.



Anyone want to share some stoke? Predictions? Any idea who is putting out an entry?

i still cant get over the first shot in hugo's, best front 4 ive ever seen. rest of the edit was meh tho. and jakob wasnt really anything special

Hugo's was just nothing to really get excited about, kinda disappointed that he's a finalist when a lot of the other semi's were much more unique. Some of his urban was definitely gnarly though. Jakobs was so styled out, glad to see he has a shot of making it with L1 this year.

pretty much every shot in hugo's edit was banger taken alone, and he proved that he can slay BIG park features so thats cool and i'm sure he'll kill it in sun valley. but not a single shot where he landed on the rail right foot forward or spun right? i r disappoint

Jakob's style was so fucking sick and unique, defs think he should be in finals.

Hugo was not all that impressive, I think Bulzan had crazier shit than him and yeah.

I guarantee you I'll like Bulzan and Sam Hursts' edits way more than most finalists anyway.

In my opinion I feel like Level 1 is just looking for someone who will actually bring something new to their slew of athletes in terms of their trick bag and obviously style. They want someone that is different and new, thats why people like Bulzan didn't make finals. They've already got skiers that are gonna slay urban the same way that Bulzan and Briggs are and they are gonna do it better than them (no offense) I feel like they aren't necessarily looking for the kid thats grinding the huge gnarly rails.( Although it still is fucking dope don't get me wrong) but maybe something that is more creative and unique. That is EXACTLY why people like LSM & Imlach won. WIth that theory I highly doubt Hugo will win. That Jakob lundberg kids style on jumps is soo damn sick but his rails are just switch up + huge ass spin which didn't really impress me.

I'm not going to lie, i am kinda butt hurt by level 1 from what they did to all the finalists and semi finalists and honorable mentions last year.

But this years semi's are just insane, I cant wate to see you the winner is.

yes i see your point..but the relentlessness of some kids saying so and so should be in finals that wasn't , before 80% of finalists has dropped is getting pretty redundant..yes all semis slayed..but level1 knows what they want..kids on ns don't..that being said I think level 1 has and will choose the finalists for a reason....for example..I think level1 chose hugo as a finalist because 1..his edit was nasty and 2..I'm sure they know he not only kills it but has been killing it for years and years..I remember seeing the kid 6-7 years ago in whistler getting down..I think he's a solid pick

Man me too. I hate it so much when I go home, take the time to login to newschoolers, go to the ski gabber threads to see what people are talking about in the ski world, click on the forum that says "super- unknown x", and see a bunch of posts about the contest. It's really getting ridiculous.

whoever said don't expect anything ridiculous from the finalists compared to the semi-finalists since they're all only separated by a hair was so wrong.

I know for sure that he was on Bibby Pros, Night Trains, Ghost Chants, Vices, and Moment Rockers (an older park ski made by Moment). He also may have been on PB&Js but idk.

Its kindof unfair for Shay to even enter. He is not Unknown at all and pretty much dropped a re-edit of his banger opening part that most of the industry has already seen. Im not saying he's too "known" to win or anything , cause i think he deserves a break, but I just wish that superunknown content was all fresh shots, not ones we ve already seen. Im also not a huge fan of his style.

Having said that, it was by far the most well rounded and banger superunknown segment of all time.
