As a business student graduating soon I just started considering getting a watch after I saw this.

However I am no expert in the subject and was wondering if anyone had some advice. Not looking to spend much at this point.

Anyone have any advice? For now I will probably be wearing it with a black suit. Open to other watches as well.

As I mentioned I know nothing, hence the post. I think I saw a thread on here a year or so ago which had some sweet watched, but couldn't find it. Any suggestions? You seem knowledgable. You seem to know a bit about watches, any advice?

Price range?

Take a look at Tissot( ~200-700) -- Citizen (~150-300) --Tag Hueur (1000+) -- Seiko(150-400)


All those are just off of the top of the head, and the prices are of course not too accurate but just to give you an idea. If you want to go cheaper, fossil makes some alright ones, as well as Invicta

Yup, after seeing the comments and doing some more digging its definitely a fromanteel. To bad I don't have an extra $400 to get one. It's soo classy though.

Since we are on the topic, what are some peoples opinions of Bulova? I am looking to buy myself one as a graduation gift and would like to make sure the quality in line with what I am paying (the looks are great in my opinion)

I found all these after a 5 minute search of The Watchery. Make sure the size of the case isnt too big/small, depending on the size of your wrists, anything outside of 40-45mm diameter might look weird.

Fromanteel are rebadged watches you can buy in bulk for 50 bucks a pop.
100 for the factory directly, they are a waste of time.

Go for a vintage Omega, I will enlighten you as a spiritual guide to good watches when I get home.

Mostly rare strange obscure watches, I imagine their value will skyrocket in ten/twenty years. Now they are still reasonably priced.

The history on Fromanteel's website is bullshit and supposed to give a sense of heritage and credentials they don't deserve, they have absolutely nothing to do with that old clock maker.

What you are buying is an overpriced rebranded Chinese designed quartz watch.

The didn't even design the cases, they just picked some colour options and gave them a snazzy name.

I only sell double pairs or models that I just don't like. The rest I keep and wear.

I thought this way all through highschool/college, told the world I would never work in an office.  Come a few years after college and I'm trying to work my way up in the financial world. 

Money doesn't control your life but to do cool shit you need money-and that cant be argues.  If you want to go backpacking for 2 months, even somewhere incredible cheep you're looking at near 3k with flight.  After rent, bills, student loans...etc if you want to make money to enjoy your self you sometimes need to sack up and work the 9-5 grind until something else come to fruition.

Before working in finance I was making about 15$ an hour working a job I had through college, when a lift ticket costs 100$ a day...who can afford to do anything cool making less at 20$ an hour min.

beyond sad because i made $40k a year and dont want to spend a quarter of my salary on a real one? no one can tell, its been working flawlessly for two years, and i get compliments on it all the time. im cool with people being a watch snob, and id drop the thousands on one if i could, but unfortunately im a cubicle rat working in sales 50 hours a week like most of the population.

I don't care about your salary, if you aren't willing to spend the money on a real one or can't then it wasn't meant for you, simple as that. Even if no one else will know that you’re wearing a fake, YOU will. The point is: don’t be so obsessed with the brand that you’re willing to wear the logo and not the brand itself.

I could never wear a something that’s copying something else. Since the clothes and accessories that I wear represent me, I would feel a copy myself on the inside.

Hahaha. No sir, good question however.

To be honest my current plan (if it works out) is to find a great internship this summer as I don't really want to continue with my current position (sales for a medical company.) Then graduate in the fall, ski bum in Retallack or somewhere with a couple buddies and then get a decent job. Work for a couple years, take some time off and then start my own company. Start a company that adds value, but can also make some money as well.

That would be my ideal plan. I am not looking about buying a $1,000 or multi-thousand dollar watch. I just saw a watch and have been playing with the idea.

i dont feel like any cheaper or less of a man because my watch is a replica. I don't feel like the millions of girls who have imitation purses are either. I like the watch, I like the look, feel, wear of the leather, and it doesnt discourage me from buying one, it probably more so encourages me to one day buy a real one if my income allows it. I don't feel cheap just because my watch is. I enjoy nice things as well, but I buy what's in my means. I'm not trying to use a watch to sell myself as something I'm not. My brother-in-law works on Wall St as a broker and has one, which is where I found out about Panerai. I loved the way it looked, and knew I could never afford one, so I did the sensible thing and bought one that was similar. It had nothing to do with brand assimilation, I'd still love a real one someday.

I love nixon as well. I worked for them for about a year as a sales rep, and my only complaint is that the battery life is kind of terrible. But nothing a jeweler and $5 can't fix. I've got 3 or 4 nixons. Most of them I surf with. I have one nice "player" that i wear out from time to time.

This is my only watch and I love it to death. Super lightweight and low profile, classy, simple, goes with everything. It gets compliments all the time. I have black and brown straps to match whatever I'm wearing, I can wear it with shorts and a tshirt as well as with a tuxedo and just about everything inbetween. Cost about $300 but well worth the money. Highly recommend.
