What do you think The Taliban, and Al Qaeda were doing on 9/11, crying that 'innocent americans' as they would say, were dying? Come the fuck on. Everyone is so butthurt, sure, this is a graphic video. Was it completely necessary to post it? Probably not. But guess fucking what, there have been several videos of members of The Taliban beheading Afghan Citizens, Journalist's, and American Troops. Sack up, it's a fucking war, yes "we" shouldn't be there. But we are, and I certainly fucking hope we don't lie down and take a beating.

I'm sure the Taliban and Al Qaeda were cheering on 9/11. I just thought that people in this thread would be above that and maybe realize that war isn't awesome or funny and watching people getting blown up (albeit sort of necessary as they were moving on our soldiers) isn't something to laugh about and say how cool it is.

Some people in this thread are really insensitive that even though those guys are considered our enemies, they are still human beings.

It's all relative. They're all horrible people because we're told they're all horrible. Maybe some of them are trying to defend their land and their families. You only see them as terrorists because that's how they've all been labeled. Shit the US has done before could easily be labeled as terrorism as well. But America is always right, and the people we're fighting are always wrong.

I mean we have the bigger guns so of course we're right. Also we have the bigger media force to tell us how right we are and how horrible they are.

Everything's on a fucking slant. If we're supposed to hate somebody we will, the news will make sure of it, that's how it works.

People always love to justify the actions of their side while demonizing the fuck out of the other.

Have you ever heard the term dogma?

Entangling ourselves and our military in quagmires halfway around the world doesn't exactly put us in the best scenario for national defense, does it? And neither does compensating for that by creating a massively inflated military budget.

well it kind of does. look at world war 2, japan attacked pearl harbor, then we attacked and they pretty much backed down. (yea the nuke was not the greatest idea, but it worked)

And it's war, people die. I don't necessarily think we should be there, or know why we're still there, but you can't let all those dudes get on hill and ambush our soldiers. You guys ever read Germinal, the book by Emile Zola? I think at one point they say they're fighting only because the other guy is trying to kill them. And the same goes for the other guy. I feel like that's what's going on here, to some extent. Obviously everybody will cite their own reasons, but I think there's at least a bit of that going on here.

Whole different concept of war back then, dude. Fighting a country is far different, and arguably a lot easier, than fighting a group that can vanish into the highlands when attacked and return to power as soon as the invaders have gone. It takes decades and billions of dollars to effectively clear a country of that sort of group, and even then you risk alienating the population and engendering future support for the group. This is why such counter-insurgency efforts often end in quagmires/stalemates.


(Side note: I don't know how much you know about WWII military history, but you should know that the Japanese did not back down. They fought tooth and fucking nail for every footlong piece of sand in the Pacific, and killed a hell of a lot of Allies in the process. The idea that we went on the offensive and the Japanese were cowed back to their borders while they awaited our invasion is dead wrong.)

But that is what's so impossible about this war. The civilians don't want to help, mostly out of regard for their own safety, The Taliban has been known to kill locals who say anything intel wise, and members of the Taliban don't fucking wear uniforms. It is exactly like fighting the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War, they blend in, they know how to get out of sight, and remain non-conspicuous. It's hard to "go after the enemies military bases" when they don't label them as we do, and hide them in caves, tunnels, and mountains.

We do it all the time. We just cheer about how we stuck it to some countries military.


I mean honestly that's what happens in wartime. You go after an enemies military. We see it as some fucked up tragedy and made all these movies about it. It's what happens in a war and that's playing by the best rules. They blew up out military they didn't blow up LA.

Pearl Harbor wasn't a huge tragedy, what we did in Japan was. Pearl Harbor is simply what goes down when you want to fight other countries.

When we blow up a countries military base it's just another day at the office. We get a nice sense of accomplishment, we done fucked over the enemies, but if it happens to us we bitch and moan about it for 70 years.

Well, I believe you were saying that a good offense is the best defense. I was trying to point out that massively committing our military to foreign wars (ie offense) is not a good national defense strategy. Then you compared the situation to WWII, as an example of how large foreign wars could be beneficial to national security (I think, correct me if I'm interpreting you incorrectly), and then I pointed out that wars against countries that directly declared wars on us are vastly different from wars against small radical groups.

My point was that the kind of offense that involves entrenching our military in a foreign country is not the best kind of defense, because it simply saps defense resources and keeps troops fighting wars that are next to impossible to win.

Maybe not everybody over there hates them, maybe not all of them are even bad. Maybe some of them are just defending their country. Is there anything wrong with defending your homeland against a foreign invasion?


All this shit we're doing in all these countries. The amount of troops we have in some of these countries is insane.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter because there will probably never be a time where we aren't deeply involved in other countries like we are today. It's something that probably isn't going to change.

well i agree that with what we are fighting (religious extreme factions with guerrila war power) are inflated. but i will stand by us being their is a good thing, not just for us, but also for the people in the middle east. also i would say that the taliban and al queda is big enough to be considered a viable threat against the government.

there was definitely beef between the US and Japan.

starting with commodore perry's gunboat diplomacy which forced the Japanese to open their markets to US goods in the 19th century. the US was also part of the colonialist crew of western countries that included the uk, france, netherlands, germany, etc that raped and pillaged in southeast/east Asia. So the Japanese were obviously mad about that too. The icing on the cake that prompted the attack on pearl harbor was when the US decided to force european countries like the netherlands and the countries of southeast asia to place an oil embargo on japan. japan attacked the US, hoping that they could force the imperialist swine(US) out of Asia.
