60D vs GH2

Hi guys im looking to get a new camera in the near future.

What do you think would work better for filming skiing? also I will be filming alot of powder stuff, often on storm days which camera could i get the best results from?

I personally love the lens selection for the gh2. I like the vintage lenses and having the option to use old fd is sweet. I used to have a 60d and like my gh2 alot better. So if i were you i would send the gh2.

GH2 for two reasons:

1. Video quality is better.

2. Better, smaller lenses make it a much more comfortable system to carry around the mountain.

It depends if you're doing videos or stills. Gh2 is better for video and 60d is better for stills

Not really.

GH2 has a better native lens selection and its sensor can keep up perfectly with the outdated 60D sensor.

Gh2 has far better output, but the 60d is far easier to use while both shooting and in post. Also, 60d will be better for photo.

Pay attention to the word 'native'.

Native Canon EF-S lenses worth bothering about: none, zero.

You can go and get heavy full frame L lenses for the long end and third party lenses for the wide end (besides the Tokina, none are very good)... OR...

Native MFT lenses that are excellent:
12mm f/2 (kicks the ass of the Tokina 11-16mm)
12-35mm f/2.8 (panasonic, wipes the floor with the Tamron 17-50)
17mm f/1.8
20mm f/1.7 (panasonic)
25mm f/1.4 summilux (panasonic)
45mm f/1.8
75mm f/1.8

So yeah, even for photography I'd take MFT over a crop Canon.

???? who cares about ef-s lenses, EF is still native to crop sensor cameras...


As for your lens comparisons, 12mm f2 is an amazing lens but it costs the same as the tokina but doesn't cover the range the tokina does (as it is sharp @11 and @16)

any fucking 17-55 etc lens minus the kit lens is better than the tamron FOR PHOTOS
All of these primes you listed arent that great, I've had a friend who had an af100 and they hated their pani primes, they also might have used them wide open who knows.

If you'd rather have a gh2 over a say a 60d or 7d (which for photos is absolutely stupid) thats fine, but you are just wrong about the lenses. I'm not even a canon guy and I will still recognize their wide selection of amazing lenses.

This is a stupid argument. Of course Canon has a great selection of lenses, but those amazing lenses are all full frame lenses. Wether paying for and carrying full frame lenses is acceptable to you will determine the outcome of this argument, not some internet flame war.

- there are no decent wide angle primes on a Canon (or Nikon) crop
- carrying full frame lenses can be a pain in the backcountry (I know from experience with 7D and D7000)
- OM-D and GH3 sensors are putting Canon crop sensors to shame

What you say about the MFT primes not being great is wrong. I have yet to see a normal prime on a crop sensor that is as good as the 25/1.4.

WHO CARES wtf and caring full frame lenses is the same fucking thing, don't bitch about 5lbs you pussy and OM-D and GH3 sensors are putting what to shame? the 4 year old 7d sensor? of course they are but what about the 6d? 5d2/3? Sure they're not crop but thats not the point here. When the 7dm2 comes out and the 70D they will have the latest sensors and be much better for photo than mtf AND have 10x more lenses that are better. Your logic is flawed GTFO

m4/3 for photos is stupid, ultimately. No optical viewfinder? No thank you... Mirrorless has it's place in small travel camera kits, and yeah things like the GH3 shoot solid video, but the thing is, their sensors END at m4/3. Canon, Nikon, hell even Pentax and Sony have far more sensor options that do just as well, and usually better than most m4/3...

and what with FF becoming a far more viable option to folks with 5dm2's and 5dc's selling for less than a 7D was brand new? and the new 6D and 600D coming out and telling folks that FF is becoming more affordable?

Making claims about EF lenses being non-native is silly - because eventually all those crop sensor guys are going to be throwing their awesome EF glass on a fullframe entry level DSLR... leaving m4/3s far far behind.
