Skiing Engagement Ideas

Alright NS, so I'm probably going to ask my girl to marry me soon. I plan on taking a trip out to Copper Mountain, CO and do it there somehow. Now, before you all call be unoriginal for asking a skiing forum for ideas, hear me out.

So, she and I have been together for four and a half years and In the past three years, I've taught her to ski to the point where she can make it down any of the toughest runs in the midwest in one piece. I've been thinking about engagement for the past year or so, and this season, she has improved greatly from skiing four days so far to the point where a Colorado trip would be worthwhile for both of us.

Now, my brother started dating this girl ten months ago and just got engaged two weeks ago at Granite Peak in Wisconsin(quick, yeah, I know) during his GF's first time ever skiing (my brother is not that much of an avid skier either, can't even double). I would be more stoked for him had he not taken his girlfriend and proposed to her on top of the mountain/lift like I was planning on doing for a year or two now. So, now I am in a shitty situation. I don't want to do the same exact thing he did even though I was planning on doing the same thing (albeit, in Colorado) before they even met.

Does anyone have any idears that could include skiing (or not) or maybe places around Copper Mountain that could work with my plans? Just looking for some ideas. I've thought up a few myself, none that really stand out as being the one.

ok now i readed it... sort of.. half... i have add so dont blame me, blame the system.
first off all congrats, second off all maybe wait some longer so you dont get in trouble with your brother (they are the special ones who get married ya know? if you marry almost the same time they maybe get upset cause you will steal their spotlight...)

If you are going to ask her, take her on an good hike, search the perfect location first, beautifull view etc etc.
so go hiking, make it all awesome, have fun and just act like you dont really know where youre going (but you do know).
when you get to the beautifull location there will be an awesome dinner/lunch with candles etc because you allready planned this shit all the way out and you got some local on a snowmobile to get the luxury dinner/lunch out there. when shes all like ohmagaaawd so cute youll be shining like a motherfucker and youll pot the question like a gentleman.

she would be the happiest woman in the world, and you the happiest man in the world.
after that you make some sick powturns back to the lodge where you can urinate in her anus.

Yeah, they're getting married this fall. Theres no chance of dates clashing. Wedding would be 1.5-2 years down the road for us.

you need to get in touch with ski patrol, and take her to shoot the howitzer gun.  once you have completed this first step, you will hopefully have succeeded in creating an avalanche that will be roaring down the mountain....you drop to one knee and buckle her bottom boot buckle that you notice is flipped up....as you stand up and the avalanche is roaring beneath you two

then you pop the question, and as she is screaming YES because both of your ears will be ringing glen plake rips down behind the avalanche with a 2' tall pink mohawk to deliver the ring to you.

Few a ideas: Heli trip to Silverton/AK/BC and propose in the heli.

Go to Highlands bowl in Aspen (or any other easy accessible sidecountry area), Hike it with her, and propose on the top the bowl. (Amazing view and Gaper free).

About once a month I hear about guy proposing at the top of Aspen mountain(they take gondola up and then back down cause they suck at riding).

A real skier would get their significant other totally stoked on the epic run they about to take on the massive terrain (whether it be on a heli,cat,hike, or just big mnt terrain), and then pop the question.

Nothing wrong with copper but maybe go to less crowded resorts if you can afford it.
Crest butte, telluride, Cooper, Monarch, Wolf creek.

I'm not sure about skiing, but do something that she is into, I know that you got her into skiing, but is she as much of a die-hard about it as you? If not it won't be that glorious moment that she has been waiting for since she was a little girl. Sure that sounds sexist and all, but gender roles exist and they get pushed on kids pretty hard. She probably cares more about the proposal than you do, even if you are the one doing everything. I'm digging the hike thing, could also be done in the summer- just hope no animals eat the food before you get there.

Holy shit, no, man. I can totally see it looking like that, but I've been planning on doing it this summer/ this coming fall for the past couple of years. Brother came in with this new girl (first girlfriend ever) 10 months ago, and bam, they're now engaged.

idk what kind of relationship you have but there's this family friend of mine, who is a total goofball, and while on a vacation he and his girlfriend went parasailing, he sort of proposed with a really cheap ring and intentionally dropped it in the ocean (made it look accidental) so he played if off whatever until they got back down then actually engaged with the real ring that was still in the boat.

Thought it was a neat/ creative way, however it would take a certain person and relationship to do it... but you could always do that on a lift, drop a fake, then when you are at the peak, really propose.

yeah... i would say only propose to her on skis if she likes skiing as much as you... not sure how many girls would be into that unless they 1, never go skiing and think its super romantic or something 2, are super into skiing...

and i do have to say my wedding / proposal was f-ing awesome!! check out my pics! (but it really only worked cause we are are pow freaks) :)))

She's pretty into skiing. It would work well because she has never been to a state west of Illinois / seen real mountains, let alone skied on one.

Spend the big bucks and get a local heli/cat operation near copper to take you guys on the best run of your life. Have the cat/heli waiting with champagne and stuff. Propose right after your run.

i like some of these ideas... where you pretend you have a bad fall or something and then have the ring in your hand... ha! awesome!

but it all depends on what she is like....

oh... and just FYI... girls usually say something crazy when they are proposed to... so just a heads up going in... dont get freaked out if she says something way off the wall right away... its just shock :)

The hike part is good! Here's how my best friend's parents got engaged, it must have worked because they have been together for over 20 years:
They were having lunch on the summit of a mountain they had just hiked, and he said to her, "Hey Susan, what's that shiny looking rock over there?" Which of course was the ring that he had hidden in with some rocks. It didn't exactly work out because she just said "I am not going to chase after every shiny thing you see!" But he eventually convinced her to go get it, and it all worked out.

I thought it was pretty cute:)

Dont look at it as copying your brother... now you get to one up him! Its not copying if you one up them.

Definitely get ski patrol/the mountain in on it. Managers/people in authority have a soft spot for engagements. Maybe arrange an early run with ski patrol to get first tracks/sunrise, and possibly a Cat ride to the top. Be kind with the mountain folk and you can definitely get a unique, more memorable experience than simply taking the lift to the top
