Powder or Park Ski

Can I use my park skis in pow? The mountain i am going to next week is due about 30 cm. (Or a foot. Should i just use my suspects or franticly look for some to buy? Before I get any hate.... I can ski and will be able to tell the difference. +k's for opinions.

30cm isn't that much, but i would prefer to be on a midfat for it. I can't imagine going on an extended ski trip (presuming you are uk going to the alps) without something at least 100 underfoot incase it does snow. That said if it looks like 30cm for one day, just rent!

• you can use any park ski in pow, it will still be fun
• if you don't have anything wider, i wouldn't recommend quickly buying a new pair just for powder
• i don't know your options, but if you're going to ski in the alps at this time of year, fat skis will be great no matter what

My main concern in the availability of fat skis. All rental shops seem to just stock carving skis :(

in europe there are more and more shops which have started to stock a winder range of skis. your best bet is to ring up any shop which you can find online before you go, and they will be able to tell you. otherwise, try checking ski school when you arrive, because they often have skis for rent too.

i use my parks in the pow(i dont have the money for pow skis) and they're not great but i've skied waistdeep in them and didnt have to much difficulty. if you're gonna rent try freestyle ski shops that rent cuz most towns have atleast 1( in the alps atleast) amd you can call ahaid and reserve a pair of fattys

I've skied 85 cm waist skis in light pow. Not fun trying to turn. But if you've got enough speed, you can manage ok. Just keep your tips from diving.

i don't believe you had problems with 85cm waist skis... i think you probably had 85mm waist though.

i also disagree because my ar6 have 85mm underfoot and they ski pretty well in powder.

i've only done pow twice and it was just under knee deep but i used park skis and it was perfectly fine because i was so used to how the skis felt and i was really comfortable and confident with them too. If you buy a new pair you may not trust yourself to do well even if ur pretty good

I used rented suspects in pow when I went to whistler (their rental dept. sucks) and it was fine granted I had never skied a fat ski before.

you probably need to run out right now and buy a new pair of fatypus alotta rockers, you will be foatin on that snow like no other

a park ski should be fine in only a foot. if you do find a rental that would be best. No point of buying pow skis unless you really ski pow a lot

You will be fine on your park skis. Just stay stonger in your core than you normally would.
