CU Boulder Greek life

Whats up nsers, i know a lot of people on here are very anti greek life, but is anyone here in a fraternity at CU? I'll be going to CU next year and i'm curious as to how big greek life is there, and if anyone has any insight into what fraternity to join there if i decide to rush

go for it. i rushed last semester, and it was a great time. i didnt finish pledging because i had to drop it because of school and grades, but im going to go through it again.

its not a huge scene, but check it out, and see if you find a group of people that fits you and that you would want to be a part of. dont join one just to join one, but dont come in with a predisposed opinion that its a bad thing. see if it works for you

For the most part the only thing collegiate NSers know about greek life is from being kicked out of fraternity parties, so I wouldn't really come here asking for advice. That being said, I'm a greek at Oregon and it's been the best decision I've made in college. So rush every house and see which one is best for you, get ready for one hell of a time. Feel free to message me for advice on rushing/pledgeship etc..

To all the haters of Greek life have you ever even experienced it? or even know anything about it and or people who are in it, beside what you see in movies?? Greek life is a great way to get involved in school and on campus activities, also you meet some cool guys and build great friendships (dont have to be friends with everyone). Overall you get to live in a sick house, forced to get good grades and do good in school, involvement, alumni connections, normally costs the same as living in a dorm. Dont see why not.

I'm a senior at CU planning to walk this May so I can give genuin help.

It's a very unique school whether people want to admit it or not. There are very few schools where the Greek scene, house party scene, and bar scene are all equally as big. Being in a frat is not a must at CU, but not a bad choice either. From my experience, your dorm buddies will always be close friends, from there you choose where to go.

All the frats are different and will give people different impressions. Rush them all and see what you like, but rush is one giant man flirting session, and everyone admits it. Talk to your friends, see what you like.

I don't like frats here but I can say Sigma Pi had the most skiers when I was a freshman and checked them out 3 years ago. But for real, since I've been old enough, I haven't been to a house party in a very long time. I spend most of my nights on Pearl.

Sorry guys, very hammered me got defensive last night and came off as a douche.

What I was tryin to say is don't make generalizations about something. I'll be the first to admit that there are a lot of frat douches in boulder, that I dislike as much as everybody here. But there are also quite a few people who don't fall under this stereotype, who are in a fraternity because they like the people in it, and get to live in a fun house

Fraternities are so different at different schools. Go to rush events and what not, get to know the guys, and if you like them and feel like the fraternity would be a good fit for you, pledge. People on here love to hate on frats, but chances are their school is one where fraternities have a very negative connotation.

There are definitely fraternities that are chock-full of douchebags that most people would want to avoid, but there are many that are full of normal people. For example, I go to an engineering only school, probably the last place you would expect to see fraternities, but over 35% of males go greek. I'm currently in pledgeship and I really enjoy it.

You're not going to want to join a frat. There's so many different things to do here, that you'll find people with similar interests quickly. Who wants to be hazed by a bunch of bros to feel accepted?

Dude i'm glad you're entering the workplace with that mindset. As I can tell, Frats have instilled a great attitude in you! Congratulations man! You're a delusional douchebag with an inflated sense of self-importance. Have fun playing out the role of cocky business man.

I feel bad for all of us not in frats. We'll never make friends, we'll never have a good time, and we'll never get to work an awesome job like you have.

You need to check your ego man. Your confusing your costume and personality that you learned through a frat with a real personality. Don't get lost in your costume :) seems like you already have though!

As most of you have figured out just by living, you tend to turn into who you hangout with. Be careful, the world doesn't need another jocky idiot running around shouting to get attention

College is a time of self growth and self discovery. Its a develoment of your internal compass.

If you join a frat, be careful of how it orients your inner compass. I don't care if a frat gets you a good job or a good social network. I have seen kids go through frats and come out the other side being completely delusional with an inflated sense of self importance.  These types of people are so thick headed and dumb. Its fun to watch people watch a bunch of frat boys, makes you feel pretty damn smart!

I go to CU, not in greek life though. There's a pretty decent greek scene here, but there are also TONS of people not in frats. Not gonna judge people in frats, but I never rushed as it just wasn't something I'm interested in. I made a great group of friends my freshman year and there was just no incentive in joining a frat.

And yeah, you're basically paying a bunch of money to make friends. Just remember if you do join a frat how much you're limiting the amount and types of people you're going to meet during your time at school.

i got the shit kicked out of me by a whole frat in boulder. i don't know why you would need to in boulder. there is always a bunch of house partys going on there.

some people just like it. i really didnt think i would join a fraternity, and had the same opinion that a lot of people here do. but my folks and some friends convinced me to just check it out, and it ended up working out for me
