4runner or Xterra

Which is the superior SUV and why? The 4runner is 04 and the xterra is 07. And is the xterra 4wd a pain to use in snow? It sounds like you have to be going below 25 to shift to shift into 4 wehl drive and you can't go above 55.

be wary of the xterra in the past year my brothers xterra has had over 4000$ worth of repairs. its a 2005 with around 150,000 kms. so far the radiator blew and two hoses broke having transmission fluid and coolant mix... the drive axle came off...and many minor things

definitely get the 4runner, bigger engine and nicer interior, better quality and it looks 10x better. dont get the xterra i know like five girls who drive them.

you can prolly get a newer xterra for cheaper than a 4runner

but 4runners usually run longer and have less issues overall

toyotas are overpriced imo

Get a 2nd or 3rd gen 4runner.

There is a xterra I see at the mountain with a lift and a few add ons and it looks pretty slick though, In my opinion the new 4runners look more like mom-mobiles.

Toyo's in all of the reviews I have been reading have been really good.

Go drive both and decide which one you like better.

Personally, I'd go with the 4runner. My x had an Xterra and i was not a huge fan of it. Interior wasn't very comfortable and it had a really stiff ride. Plus, anywhere I have lived it has been a predominately female driven vehicle, just saying.

I was once in a 97 4runner that flipped on the highway going 80mph. Craziest shit ever, there were 4 of us in the car and everyone was totally fine. So I am a little biased towards 4runners.

I don't know why all these wankers are hating on xterra's... I have 2001 with 450 000 kms.  Never had any problems with it.  With regular maintenance these things go forever!  My only complaint is that it could use an extra gear, the rpms get pretty high when going above 110.  Other than that, I love my xterra.

The 96-02 4runners have the same front end as the 1st gen Tacoma. Front suspension parts are interchangeable, and I've done it. You can also put a 4Runner bumper on a Tacoma (also seen it done). Rear suspension is completely different, though.

There are some bad years of 4runner. Just avoid that 3.0 vze pile of shit and you will have a bombproof rig. Or just make sure the head has been already rebuilt. I have 2 friends that really like their pathfinders, but i think toyota is the superior brand.

4 runner is way better. tyhe engins last for ever. problem is rusting because its a toyota with shitty jap steal, kinda liek my subaru.  get the v8 modle and put a lift on it. there badass as fuck. my buddy has one and we drive up the ski mountains in the summer at night do 4wheeling and get drunk. so fun.  wev driven it to the top of 3 ski resorts here in vermont and went up some serious shit.

my buddy has a 05 i think and he paied 13000 afor it. they retain their value but are a good bang for the buck asfar as working for a long time.

4runners are more reliable but Xterras are better looking (for that body style). Also, Xterras have timing chains, not timing belts... which are expensive to service. It's all about first gen 4runners... ultimate camping/mountain rig.

I just bought a black 07 xterra and i really like it. I find them to be one of the better looking suvs out. they're peppy and fun to drive. gotten a lot of compliments on it.

Got it. No worries.

The 4.7L V8 that comes in the 03-11 4runners is the best petrol engine Toyota has ever made (aside from the 22r and its variants). My friend has an 05 with it and he consistently gets 18-22 per tank.

That's what I've heard as well. People on t4r.org love the V8. I have a 2009 sport edition with the V6 and get about 20 when I drive it nicely. My dream is to throw on the supercharger kit. Would be crazy fun.
