I really want the Billy Goats but theyre like $799 plus bindings for like $350 with tax on all that is pretty expensive

You just have to save up man.
I bought Filthys and BGs this summer, plus a pair of Guardians. It's worth it though.

For next year, I think I've figured out the quiver.
-191 Billy Goat Tours w/ Dynafit (touring trips)
-186 Jefferies w/ Salomon Guardian 16s (resort pow and all mountain, as well as slackcountry days)
-186 Filthy Riches (park and spring)

All I really have to do is buy the Jefferies and Dynafit bindings.
Shouldn't be all too much.

How do people like the FR as more of an all mountain ski? I know the Jmo is more directed to all mountain, but i have the Jeffrey, and wants a ski that i can ride in the park and rail groomers will. I do about 30% park and 70% groomers/dicking around on the mtn. I live in the midwest and if there is any fresh, ill be using my Jeffreys. So really all i want this ski for is groomers and a little bit of park. Im 6 foot, 225 and a type 3 skier. I dont like very floppy skis, so keep that in mind.

In hindsight, I wish I had gotten J Mos for my skinnier ski this season when I chose what I want for my worst top sheet design.

Oh well....Jefferys next year will the gap

Not exactly 13/14 skis but I just got my hands on 186 BGs from 10/11 :D

what do people think of having a caylor/jeffrey quiver? already own 181 caylors and love them. i'm looking for something a little more all-mountain than the caylor as well as something that would be good for spring touring (when the caylor is an overkill). also considering the jmos, but am leaning towards the jeffreys as long as they aren't too much of an overlap with the caylors.. thoughts?

See if they guys have any light layups of the Jeff laying around, someone in the touring thread is on a jeffery "tour". I don't think there would be too much overlap, I do think you would find yourself on the Jeffery a lot more

I've got Caylors and Jeffreys. Caylors are great for in bounds stuff but touring on them can suck. I definitely like riding the jeffreys more on an average spring day I'm just cruising the mountain.

I don't think there would be too much overlap, NS user Dirty.Harry has a quiver of Caylors and Jeffreys. I think you could justify it, if you made them your primary touring ski. I've been consider a pair of 186 Jeffreys (maybe with a custom flex, on the stiffer side, more like a Caylor) for a primary slackcountry touring ski.

As said above, I think you'd find yourself breaking out the Jeffreys more frequently. As the general consensus seems to be that they're plenty 'floaty', and given the weight saved, I think you'd find yourself touring on them even on deep touring days. Also if your on a frame AT binding, you'd probably ski them for most inbounds skiing. Hence the Caylor becomes a ski for those perfect days.

yep, i am also considering the jmos. obviously the jmo is going to be better on hardpack and groomers, but i'm not sure how they would handle as a touring ski (anyone have experience with this??)...

at this point i'm leaning towards the jeffrey. i think it would nicely fill the spot of a more versatile touring ski as well as a more functional/capable all-mountain ski than the caylor. i'll probably end up skiing it more than the caylor due to its versatility, but that's fine. i'll still get plenty of use out of my caylor on deep days and in the sidecountry. thanks everyone for the advice.

From exchanging some emails with Rowen last year, it sounds like the Jeffreys and Caylors do overlap a little.


If you want something to tour on, look at the vicik or tychoon. If you want a quiver for just in bounds stuff, Id either go with Jmo/Caylor, or Jeffrey/ BG

They overlap considering your specifics, that was kinda personalized. Twoods rocks and can justify both, and for someone looking for a deep day ski and a wide everyday driver, the combo might just be the ticket. Depends on your needs and definition of 'overlap' haha

Jeffrey and Billy Goat overlap question.

Currently rocking my BGs with Guardians on them as a daily driver/tour ski.

Next year I'm going to do what a lot of people seem to be doing and upgrading to the BG Tours with a Dynafit as my touring set up.
Other ski in the quiver are my 186 Filthy Riches (which to be honest; haven't seen much snow).
So to fill the gap, I'm looking towards either the Caylor (191) or Jeffrey (186) as a pow/resort driver.

Only con with the Jeffrey is its length.... I've taken a pair out for opening at Kicking Horse for tr weekend. The did impress me, I just felt they could have used an extra 5 cms.

Which kinda leaves me with the Caylor.
Length: check
Waist: sure
Type of skiing: powder and resort jib.

I've never had a problem with a fat ski as a resort driver. Actually, I haven't had a main ski narrower than 112 in awhile.

If only there were a longer Jeffrey

if im almost 6 feet would a 186 FR be too big? just looking at this sale on evo, i ride 181 jmos now...just a thought haha.....i might pick up those 11/12 bg's on sale sometime

To contribute to the Jeffery/Caylor discussion:

I think of the Jeffery as a nimble, shorter, thinner Caylor with more contact length and less rocker. That's a comparison between the 191 Caylor and 186 Jeffery.

The Jeffery is a better off day ski. They do better with carving and being playful in hard snow.

The Caylor is a better soft snow ski. More float, more charge, and they don't ever feel overmatched by the snow. Jefferys sometimes do.

We don't really market the Jeffery as a touring ski, but I've been using my 186s that way since mid-January. They're a perfect combo of float, power, light-weight, and playfullness that still gets up the skin track. Can't say I've enjoyed touring on my Caylors, but that was with Daywreckers, so there you go.

i would like to add to this that, while the caylors excel in soft snow, they still charge hard through crud and variable conditions. unless i am in the park (which has been most of the time this year), they are my go to ski until snow stops falling and there is nothing worth going after off piste (and i never leave the park at that point)

on a similar note, any chance of a 186 caylor in the future? i have a pair of 181's and love them, but sometimes wish i had a little more length, but 191 seems like it might be a bit too big

I'm 5'8" and I've been riding 181 FRs all season and I love them, my cousin is maybe an inch or two taller than me and he's riding the 186s....they might take a little bit to get used to, but I think you'll be fine.

I did the same thing a few years ago. Jmos were great for me in 2 feet of fresh. Although I did break two pairs of them this year. Lol. Great park ski too I might add if you like a wider ski

Any speculation to when presale/preorders begin based on year's past?

Also someone help fund new veneer Jeffs by buying my FRs and BGs. I am on an extended hiatus, rather than a permanent leave, from skiing, just putting it on the backburner for the next four years. Looking for a ski to get that done.

My current ski is the k2 domains and I wanted to try a new brand of skis, I've loved my k2 domains and wanted a ski like this in 0N3P. My friend recommended me the FR what do u think? thx!

Before I started riding the FR I rode the Domain for a season. FR is a bit stiffer underfoot, but just as playful in the tip and tail, this gives you a bit more stability that the Domain doesn't have. The bases on the FR are much faster and just as durable as the Domain, and the FRs edges are twice as thick (I went through 2 pairs of Domains the season I had them, wore right through the edges, I barely made a dent in edges on my filthys) There's a lot more rocker on the FR than on the Domain, so take that into consideration when choosing a size (if you rode the 169 Domain, I recommend the 176 FR for example). In general, the FR is more fun and skis way better than the Domain, I actually really enjoyed my Domains, but my FRs are way more enjoyable, such a better ski in all aspects.

The one thing you have to be weary of is whether or not you like rocker/flat camber skis or just traditional skis. I think everyone can agree that rocker skis are much more playful, but for me when I actually wanna ski hard traditional camber is my preference.

Not really, I mean they're not the lightest skis on the market, but they're certainly not the heaviest park ski. To compare Line Chronics weight 1.785kg at 178 while the FR weighs 1.82KG at 176, that's about 1/10th of a pound...not much difference in weight.

Edges are twice as thick?  I thought the Domain had 3.5 mm edges vs. 2.5 mm edges on ON3P.  Not flaming at all, just curious since I found the edges on the domains to be pretty comparable to my buddies Jeffery's.

ON3P needs to offer a presale 181 FR with the Prester topsheet.  I'll give you $600 for them right now.

There's 2 dimensions to edges, length and width (so from base out and from sidewall down), If you look at K2's edges they might be 3.5mm from base out, but from sidewall down (the one that actually matters) they're the standard 1.5mm. ON3P has 2.5mm by 2.3mm edges, plus they're made from a harder metal that doesn't wear away as fast. They may appear comparable when you look at them from the base, but take a look at the sidewalls and you'll notice the difference. I'm telling you, I wore through the edges on my domains (even with swapping skis constantly and they were detuned before the season) in about a month and a half (about 30 days on hill), meanwhile I'm looking at a pair of Filthy Richs (detuned and skis swapped, just like the Domains) I used all season (roughly 75 days) and the edges look basically the same as they did after I detuned them the first time (minus 1 edge crack that isn't even all the way through the edge).
