What to use as a wax scraper?

Just hot waxed my stuff and thought a paint scraper and credit card would do the trick. I think they did just fine, but was wondering if there was a better replacement for a wax scraper?

To be honest, anything with a flat edge works. We've got a wax scraper in my basement somewhere, and it's basically a piece of plastic with a rather (but not really) sharp edge on it

So yeah, a credit card works. You might want something wider though.

You can take a file to a car ice scraper and you can make a sharp ergonomical scrapper.

I was using a 2 inch thick piece of plastic but It wasn't working well because it wouldn't flex and it made it difficult to get all the wax off so I would just make sure that its not too thick

Ski tuning is the real reason your math teacher wanted you to buy that geometry set. Use the straight edge of the protractor or one of the triangles to scrape your excess wax.

that's what I do -- I give my skis a thin new coat almost every time I go out & just don't scrape it.

I use a combination of paint scraper, wire brush and one of those things you use to rub in the wax on cross country skis. Seems to do the trick.

I dont recommend using a paint scraper. Use a card if you need too. But in all honesty that wax comes off after like 10 seconds of riding and scraping off the excess is not nessiary

Sounds like, 'learn how to scrape properly', is more what you need. not to be a dick(because that sounded dickish), but you can use just about anything square within reason.

if you do get a scraper, and it starts to not work as well after a while, get a scraper sharpener. so much easier to use a sharp scraper.

I second the guys who say "don't scrape." Why waste all that wax? Leave it on, you might run slow for the first run, but your wax job will last longer. Scraping is for racers.

Not scraping the wax off is actually worse than scraping it.
The wax is supposed to saturate the base. If you leave it on, the wax gets pulled out of the base by the force of friction.

i dont know why more people havent caught onto this, but window scrapers are about 1000x better for scraping skis than a marketed wax scraper.

MAre of those scrapers are made to form to the convex shape of a windshield not a flat ski. Marketed scrapers are also harder plastic

I work in a tuning shop and wax tonnes of skis and snowboards daily. OP just go buy a SWIX scraper, they would super good.

I think a common misconception is that when "sharpening" your scraper, you don't taper it at all. you want a scraper with 90 degree angles and then you push it tilted forward slightly, it's pretty damn effective. A file in a vice works really well for keeping your scraper flat.
