He was targeting the top ad agency execs. In the ad world I feel like you are very concerned with your image online and what people can find out about you through google. You want your image to be good so you can do good PR and whatnot. I feel like if you saw an ad after googling you that said "Hey ______" You might take notice for a second.

it's not spam, that is the adspace you can pay for. you or i could have something there too for however much it costs, doesn't look the best but it gets the job done

Another good example of being proactive in a job hunt.

I get resumes dropped off daily, I don't read them, just add them to the pile that will end up in the recycling bin.

If you want good job in todays economy you've got to do something more than what your competition is doing. Employers are looking for the person who goes above and beyond.

Truth, but something for job seekers to note, going above and beyond is not e-mailing me 4 times in an hour with your resume asking if I got it. That is just annoying and makes me want to delete all 4 of your e-mails.

I think you pay per click. So if they only click it once you only have to pay once. If its not a popular search then it is probably cheaper to do.

Yeh it’s called pay-per-click advertising.

Basically you ‘bid’ for search terms you want your ad to appear for; the more competitive these search terms are, the higher the bid is, but a name of a google exec isn’t going to be a sought after term for anyone really...apart from this guy (hence no other ads showed in the results). That’s why he was able to bid $1 on each name and be first in the ads.

And yeah, this is an incredibly creative way to get a job! Although I assume he emailed them telling them to google themselves?

I mean, how often do google exec’s google themselves? If it’s a lot then they have way too much free time.

I mean I google myself every now and again to make sure theres nothing crazy associated with me. I also google my candidates to make sure theres no records or anything serious that comes up. I would imagine that they would be very interested in their personal image since they run Ad Agencys that usually deal with PR.
