2011 Full Tilt Das Booter Hardware Question +++KARMA

Okay this thread isn't a what kind of boot should I buy type of thread, I learned the hard way and I DID go to a bootfitter for these boots!!

That being said, I have a few questions/tweaks.  I have wider feet hince why I got the booter even thought I didn't much like the influence design, but I do LOVE my boots.

My calves are bigger than average and I had seen someone post about adjusting or removing the spoiler.  Now I assume this is the gray rubber thing that my calf sits on.  Since my calves are pretty big and my leg below my calf is not super long I often get pressure on my calf, it is bareable but something that I wouldn't mind being fixed.  So is it safe or normal to just completely remove this "spoiler"?

Other than my calf pressure the only thing I feel that is sometime uncomfortable with my boots is at the beginning of the season they always fit so much tighter which i'm sure is normal, and when I had them fitted I debated on custom footbeds but decided the intuition liner would be fine.  I have come to realize it has sort of compressed and is not as comfortable as it was when they were new but the liners are still in mint condition.

So do you have any suggestions for that to make them more comfortable without spending the money for custom footbeds, and home fixes that arent super janky or some footbeds that can be cut for fit, anyone used gel inserts like for shoes before? Just anything would help.  Like I said it isn't a huge issue but something I could benefit from.

One more question is about my tongue, it is a 4 flex, me being a little heavier skier 245lbs do you think a 6 flex would make things feel more stable? Also I have never had shin bang with these (sometimes a little side leg pressure points but no shin bang) so would the stiffer flex tongue be more likely to cause shin bang and it is something I prolly just shouldn't mess with.

If anyone has any ideas or things they have done to make yours just slightly more comfortable let me know please and thank you!! Such as (Power strap), etc. Thanks so much. +++Karma

Footbeds, again I'm from the other ft thread so go back there and go use my hand example and you'll buy a footbed. You all need footbeds in any boot! But, with your calves I'd use a heel wedge, a thinner one at that. It will raise your calf out of the boot about a quarter of an inch and give the calf some room to make it that much more comfortable. Now with the tongue, at 245 a 4 can be good or not good. If your a good skier you lean into your boot and the better you are the stiffer you want the boot to be. If your not a good skier a softer tounge will work cause your not using it :) If you feel like your folding the boot in half and its no good then yea, get a stiffer tongue. I'm 180 and rock a 6 and it works for me cause I'm not a great skier. But I wouldn't go higher than an 8 personally. It all comes down to preference to be honest.

I'm not sure how that spoiler comes out, but it should be possible to do it rather easily. You can also adjust the cable placement on the cuff, which should help make it less tight in your calf area too.

The spoiler just is screwed in the same two holes the velcro strap is screwed in. It would make it about a 1/4 inch lower and there fore stop pushing on my calf  but Im just not sure if that would affect the sturdieness?  Yeah i saw the other cable placement hole, but it really isn't witdth wide too tight just the back of the boot jabs into my calf! But thanks for the input

Do you suggest custom footbeds though or are there other alternatives? Also I will have to look into a heel wedge sounds interesting. And with what you are saying about the tongue I do feel at times when landing they can feel a little loosey goosey so i do feel i would benefit from a 6 flex! thanks

They make a basic footbed its like 40 bucks. It's called super feet. Yea I think you may benefit from a stiffer tongue

Spoiler comes out easily. Unscrew the bolts holding the power strap on, and those are the same ones as the spoiler. Take the spoiler out and put the bolts back on. Also 6 would definitely be a good idea, at 245 lbs you are going to easily overpower the 4.

I would really consider Footbeds if I were you though

Yeah I saw it looked really easy to take the spoiler out, so I think I will try that. It won't affect the sturdiness or construction of the boot will it? And I agree, I am in the process of finding a 6 flex tongue. And do you have any footbed suggestions

Hey man, did some fixing to the boots and they feel worlds better just wearing them around the house. (Super feet green, #7 flex tongue, etc.) I'm still waiting to ride them to see if I should just take the spoiler off or leave it on and get a heel wedge. Let's say I left the spoiler on, what size wedge would you say? I know you said small but like .25 inch or .5 inch or even smaller! Thanks

Dude, before you start changing the volume of the fit the boot by messing with heel lifts, please remove the spoiler on the back of the cuff. This is 100% the purpose of the spoiler- to take up room for skinny calves and be removed for big calves.

Spoilers don't add stability, they simply add volume. When you take it off your boot, just make sure that the screws that were holding it on are now not too long without the spoiler in place. You don't want the screws digging into your calf.

Man you must be squashing a 4 flex. They are really soft in my opinion I'd definitely go 6 or even 8 with your weight.

I am and I think that's why my boots have that annoying squeak. They don't make #8 for booter but I ordered #7 should be worlds betttttter

IMO 7 flex will be way better for you than the 4, good call.

Did what you said on this and removed the spoiler, my calves have room to breathe now it feels worlds better.

Also moved the top buckle on my right boot forward (my right foot and calf down on my leg is a tad bigger than my left, I actually think thats normal in most people, anyways) so I can get them tightened easier and tighter actually and with the space from the missing spoiler it is perfection.  *For future reference for anyway else that may ever have the same situation, there is a little notch that needs to be removed to be able to moved the buckle to the further hole, I just used a box cutter and went really slow and you can't even tell it was there.*

Got the expert booster straps (three stretchy bands, no hard plastic) to go with a #7 flex tongue. The squeak is WAY better and barely audible, not to mention the liner stays much more snug to my shin and I don't just flex the hell out of the tongue like crazy.

Also picked up the Super Feet Green, did a tad trimming right on the the sides because they were a little wide and I wanted them to fit perfectly, needless to say those have made everything 10 times more comfortable without a doubt.


I just wanted to thank everyone who gave their input, NS really helped on this one, and my feet/calves feel worlds better. I should have done this two years ago when I bought them!! +karma
