Hey guys -

So today we're launching something which is pretty cool, but also has some really big changes in policy attached to it.

First off, you'll notice that the Login button has been replaced with an "upload" button, allowing you to quickly access the various ways to add content. One of the main keys to newschoolers going forwards is you adding content in any way you possibly can. We wanted to go a step further to make that even easier, and give you a quick way to access our news sharing concept. So you can now simply share news right from that dropdown - but please note this is reserved for sharing news and NOT YouTube / Vimeo links.

It is very important that you start to share news from around the internet, as well as vote up the good stuff you see in 'latest'. We want to include all of the best authors of news content in skiing - no matter who they write for or where they write it.

The second part is that we're taking a bold direction that is counter to the strategy we have been promoting for the last few years, and we are re-enabling Vimeo and YouTube videos to display inline with our videos by default. This will include the homepage of Newschoolers.

We still highly encourage you to upload your videos directly to the site, as we stand firm in our belief that there is massive value to maintaining a healthy ecosystem of video within skiing. On this end, we will be going drastically deeper into the production and monetization of high quality video assets. Our own producers and industry partners will have access to an improved and more monetizable system that runs off of our video system.

The fact is that we want Newschoolers to be the place where you can find all the best skiing content, and as much as we would like otherwise, that content is sometimes living in other places. It was high time for us to get with the current state of the internet, and embrace what people are doing.

As always, we're here to listen to your feedback and we always welcome it. So please give the simplified links a try, and let us know what you think.

Can you move the log out button into the quicklinks? or next to account settings? I feel like it's too close to my profile link which i do click frequently to get me back there.

Other than that, awesome. Love all these upgrades

It should be obvious for people, so I don't think we should move it into Quicklinks. For account safety, we need logout really easily accessible.

Next to Account settings was something we had considered. I personally (Paul agrees) prefer it next to the Username as we found many other sites that did it this way.

If you want, we can move it next to account settings though, its an easy enough change.

Do more people agree?

I don't really care but I would put it next to account settings rather than the quicklinks if your gonna change it.

If the username was a larger font then next is fine. For me (not everyone) it's larger/easier to click than my actual name

Better idea... we'll float it to the right. I think it would be super duper awkward to be beside Account settings.

Yeah and love the font, as silly as that sounds.

Off topc, why can't Quicklinks be accessed from every tab we're in? Sometimes I'll go there and its very limited, so I'll have to switch tabs anyway to get the appropriate Quicklink which kinda defeats the purpose.

you only have quick links to all the forums when you are in (you guessed it) any forum page. elsewhere its other links

Off topic, but along with this update, was it intended for us to be able to 'side scroll' on mobile so we can view full images now or was that a fluke? I think it's worked for every mobile accessed thread with a large picture.

And I disagree with Jamie, I think the loggout button was fine with me but I see you guys already moved it, I still think its in a fine place.

If it were up to me I'd say swap the Quicklinks and Friends dropdown and then replace Friends with a logout button. It seems weird to me to have it stick out so much being white and floating up there. And I only say remove the friends dropdown because all your friends are listed just below it.

TBH in kind if surprised more people aren't commenting on the fact that you can now add Vimeo and YouTube directly to the galleries.

That is a pretty big policy change.

Then it's going to have more clicky stuff around it. at the moment it's spaces out far enough that no username is going to hit it.

The bottom line though is that we want the homepage of NS to be the best content in skiing - no matter where its hosted.

Our monetization programs for video producers will still use our stuff, and we're going to improve our stuff to hopefully continue to attract uploads from people.

Right there there is that building illusion GIF that falls off the page. Before I couldn't side scroll off the page or zoom in and out to see the image so I'd only ever see what would fit inside the walls of my screen (terrible wording...) Thought it was a commonly known problem.

But now I can zoom out or scroll to the side to view the full image, so it seems fixed..!?
