I just want to go ahead and vote Henrik for president.

Sure, he slayed it at X and took the big air Gold with a damn progressive trick. Fantastic. Lots of guys have done that in the past.

However, Henrik hasn't been at Breck since it opened training every day with the top elite... working with his personal trainer and trying to get his winning attitude on.... no...

Henrik has been skiing at the most fucked up shitty hills in the universe with B-dog and B-paul. Hills like the ones I grew up at - hills where the real skiers are. The ones of us on the east or in the midwest that don't have 12" of fresh powder to get us up in the morning, the ones of us who are truly the 'core' of the sport. The ones who have to love skiing so much just to go out and have a good time on 200' of vertical.

Henrik has been travelling around with the Inspired crew in a van, riding with all the rad people out there - probably many of you from Newschoolers.

I have the deepest respect for the Inspired crew and what they are doing here. I mean look at this stuff - http://inspireddemotour.com/ - that is just passion personified right there.

So again - Mr. Harlaut, I salute you sir. Well played.

Wow, thanks for making me realize that. I completely forgot about the whole tour. I had just assumed that he had been out in a perfect park out west practicing for X Games and the competition circuit this year. Mad props to Henrik, doing so well at X Games without even training for the past months.

I agree for the most part, but living in the west doesn't make you any less of a real skier than east and midwestern skiers. Still, props to Henrik.

I agree with this. However, the snow conditions at the mountains you are referring to, is probably better over all than it has been in the Rocky's this season; until tonight that is. Our prayer have been answered and it is finally dumping. :-)))))))

fuck off, i grew up in Australia, 6 hour drive to the nearest hill, most people dont even know Australia has snow, i skied 4 days a year as a school kid there then made a decision after school to make skiing my job and now i live in whistler.
'Core skiers' move to make it happen.

My point is that people rarely give skiers who live in the 'bad' places much thought or respect. It takes a lot of passion to ski in a place like that day in and day out.

There are also tonnes of reasons that people can't move to Whistler, or aren't able to stay there for their whole lives.

Even as such, the same logic applies. WHen you started to ski, you drove 6 hours to the hill. You were so passionate that you moved across the world to live in a place to work and ski.

You do have to admit though, if you are a top-level pro skier its pretty awesome to go spend a month driving in a van around tiny hills and visiting all the skiers there, no? I mean if you're in Whistler pros are a dime a dozen, but if you're in Wisconson or PA then you're not about to see many. To have dudes that up and win the X-games dedicate their time to come ride with you is awesome.

Well you disagree with the point that isn't the point.

So, 'real' skiers are everywhere. Core is core, and it doesn't matter where you live. Point conceded, you win.

However, fact is people at the worse mountains usually get ignored by pros, because once a skier gets famous, gets sponsors and gets a travel budget - they usually just spend their time at the really good mountains.

Henrik is amazing because he didn't do this - he spent his time hanging out with fellow skiers, and went somewhere that a pro skier once they have 'made it' usually wouldn't go. He went to many of these places, and spread the stoke. He skied with normal skiers. If he was doing this in Whistler it would be awesome too, but it doesn't mean as much because he wouldn't have had to go out of his way.

Same with breck, keystone or his home mountains back in Europe.

If he was somewhere good, training for X and hung out with a few kids that would be cool, but not awesome. He flew to Utah, drove a van back to these less fortunate areas, and skied with a ton of normal skiers. He did not train for X-games to do this - meaning that hanging out with the people was more important than X.

He then won big air at X.

There we go, west/east stuff removed - awesomeness still bleeding out Henrik's ears.

I said this exact thing in the other thread. Skied with him at peak n peek in new york on the 18th and I was told he was flying out to colorado 3 days later to goto x. Just goes to show how dedicated and consistant henrik really is. I was the only one riding with the inspired crew for a good 2 hours then as I was leaving more people started to show up. It was awesome just to hear how stoked they were on everything, I would compliment one of them on an edit that I watched and they were just genuinely happy and thankful to hear that I liked to watch them ski. All in all they're awesome people and its awesome we have people like them in our industry to help the sport grow.

Honestly, watching Henrik do that trick and just watching him ski and be stoked got me just a little more motivated to try and do more steez tricks and try and learn some new stuff this year and in the future so I thank him a ton for that because its hard to get motivated sometimes.

I was visiting hood a few years back when i was first getting into park. After skiing me and my buddies went to a little restaurant called like 'hole in the wall' or something. And sitting on the couch was Casabon, Tanner, and Dane Tudor. The only thing that gave me the courage to go up to them and talk to them was the fact that Tanner was so energetic and was stoked on all of his conversations. When I started talking to them, they were so enthusiastic about every topic I got on. That night was the main reason I still ski the way I do. Because someday I want to be at a little restaurant in the middle of nowhere and have a little 13 year old kid come up to me stoked out of his mind.

The best thing about Henrik is his clear love for the sport, he's never not smiling on his skis, whether he's dropping into the big air jump at X or approaching a 20 foot flat bar at some small east coast mountain, he's always got that smile. You may or may not like his style, his appearance, his tricks...but you have to respect his love for the sport.

Good thread.

I've heard and known of Henrik Harlaut for awhile now, before he even had his first pro model with Ninthward, etc. etc. Always known about the dude and known his style. But I never considered his personality or anything. Met him at the Holiday Valley stop (Western New York) on the Inspired Demo Tour. Holiday Valley's vertical drop is 750 feet, and it was pretty icy and pretty cold. Henrik and Phil killed it and they were really nice to everyone who came out, and they were appreciative of Holiday Valley having them. The write ups they do after they go to each mountain are boss too.

I was honestly more moved by the video of Tanner giving Henrik the pep talk before his run than by anything else in recent skiing memory. Henrik saying he wanted to win it without the triple got me fucking stoked, and elevated him to another God-Tier of skiing badassery in my books.

Inspired has never been my style, but I realize how fucking rad these guys are and how true to skiing they are. I'm fucking impressed.

Inspiyah, One Love, Bless Jah and all that, so much respect to Henrik.

I didn't even think about that. First he's never even done the triple before and the fact that the entire month leading up to it he probably didnt hit a jump a quarter of the size of the big air jump. Phenomenal.
