Dabs collapse friends lung

I know quite a bit of you guys dab bho's qwiso, and other types of oils. I just have been wondering about the risks of hash oil. I have seen terrible oil that kids smoke that is glop. However one of my friends collapsed a lung and had to to to the ER from a dab. Its not only happened, a hash oil reviewer on youtube also had a lung collapse and I have heard its happened to other people too.

Currently non of my friends smoke hash made of solvents such as butane since residuals are left in the hash even after extraction. Hash oil is a new thing and not many people know the longterm effects.

What do you guys think?

Well this is troublesome. I am dabbing some BHO right meow.

Could you elaborate more on what is causing these lung collapses? My left lung collapsed twice when I was young and it is now weaker than my other one. This could be the thread that makes me over to solvent-less wax and vacuum purging.

It was a pnuemothorax. Spontaneous collapse of the lung. Most likely due to the expansion of smoke in the lungs, which is when you start to cough really hard when you take a big hit. Then the lung basically imploded. It very well could be other factors that played part. He smoked lots of oil.

All my other friends who smoked only bho stopped just because the amount of poorly purged hash and from this incident. Even dispensaries sell bad oil. To me its bho is questionable because solvents are used and sometimes still in the final product.

As fore answers all these stoners on the forums I have read say its cool but there have been really no scientific tests on bho that say its harmful, but hardly any research has been done so you cant just asume it's ok. Maybe someone else has a better take on it?

Shit happens with bong hits too, don't get all chicken little and panic because it's a dab.  Just smoke a bowl and chilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

I think its when people improperly make their oils that this happens. By the way, the guy who's lung collapsed from the CCC series says in a recent video that it was not caused by oils or related to mj at all, as told by his doctor.

People need to start purging their oils completely before taking their first dabs of the batch, and they need to take realistic hits. That half gram dab isn't only a waste, its a bad idea, just like holding it in for 20 seconds.

In the end, if you make your own stuff, make it right.

it's mainly because of the size of these dabs people are taking. i don't smoke oil all the time..but these people that do, get a ridiculous tolerance to weed and have to smoke oil to get baked.

with that being said, i think the average BHO smoker won't get a collapsed lung from doing so. but yes very important to purge your oil properly..ya don't wanna be dabbing butaney shit

It collapsed when he started hacking. The dab was cleared and it looked so painful. My guess for the cause was the combination of a big dab, and possibly improperly purged oil. I have seen guys glop oil filled with bubbles and clouds of bho on the nail and to me smoking that just seems bad for your health.

I've never had it happen to a friend, I've never met anyone that it's happened to and I've never even heard of it happening.


I mean I've heard of collapsed lungs obviously but never any correlation between smoking weed and having your lung get owned.


Maybe it had something to do with a poor job on a homemade batch. Idk.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't do a shitty job and you'll probably be fine.

You could have a collapsed lung doing other completely unrelated shit to smoking.

Maybe just downsize a little bit and don't do a monster one every time. Smoking shouldn't be a contest anyway.

This is troublesome, but also makes sense in some ways. It seems like BHO or any kinda hash would be better than smoking straight buds because you arent smoking very much at all in comparison. AND it seems sensible to me to think that even if theres still butane in there it would be burned before entering your lungs but im no scientist.
is it specifically bho?
i know there are a few other ways to get oil, C02 for example which i dont believe could have any negative effects

Your problem is you're vaping wax. Shatter/Sap is what you want. Wax is almost always underpurged and contaminated.

I have read that if there is butane in the oil you will inhale it. If you were to let it escape from the wax you would lose the smoke. Butane is also a neuro toxin, but I am sure that properly made bho is safe, although I am still hesitant to smoke it. Thats just my choice.

CO2 oil and bubble full melts are as clean as it gets, no harmfull solvents are left in the final product. I smoke flowers and bubble hash mostly, my friend had some crazy smelling CO2 hash and that stuff was good. I just don't think its worth the risk to dab potentially bad bho, and my tolerance goes through the roof.

My friend switched to entirely BHO in the summer since he had all this resin building in his lungs and thought oil would be better. He told me he eventually started coughing up reclaim goop then this happened to our friend and he quit dabbing bho. He is in northern california and a people down there are starting to question solvent made oil apparently. Its definitely something that should be looked at, especially when dispensaries are passing it of as highly medical.

In regards to other forms of hash and marijuana. Its fairly new. Especially with the medicinal marijuana boom it has become way more popular and available. Back 5-10 years ago I bet it was WAY harder to get hands on hash oil.

It's not new but there's a new trend.

A few years ago finding a torch would be a pain in the ass if yours stopped working or disappeared. Now it seems like everyone has a torch, everyone has an oil rig and everyone is all about it.

I made my own shit from the clippings from my grow. Was extremely potent. Used isopropyl alcohol to separate it, then left it on the porch for a few days to evaporate. My lung did not collapse smoking it, and there was a lot of it.

I'm curious about this too. I went to a dispensary in a Pagosa Springs once. The was talking to the owner, who is a really grumpy old man, and he doesn't stock BHOs because he is so apposed. He claimed it is more damaging than smoking the flowers. I don't know if this is true or not, but I would like to hear more. 90% of the time I am smoking my hash pen which is a butane extract. I thought it was the healthier choice. If I smoke bud, I end up coughing up some flem the next day.

Not calling you out at all but this is a huge problem with BHO. It's NOT easy. Everyone and then mother thinks they can make it without doing nearly enough research. They just watch some jackass on youtube do it completely wrong. Then they end up smoking the most disgustingly under purged budder or blasting indoors and blowing themselves up.

i believe there's way more tar from smoking buds, you inhale a lot more physical smoke, whereas with dabs there's mostly vaporized cannabinoids, some plant material depending on quality, and unfiltered solvent. the question is how toxic are the solvents longterm, and is that more or less dangerous than much more smoke without chemicals? dunno if that makes sense, super stoned

It was definitely the smoke that caused it. The smoke expands in the lungs after a hit and I am sure you have taken a big hit that feels fine until a second or two later your coughing until your face turns red. It was due to the expansion from the smoke and the big hit some how a small hole opened up and his lung deflated.

I will agree with you that vape hits are tasty and the resin is like hash.

I stuff my tube wih like a half o I run butane through it till it drips through give it different intervals of pumping butane so that it has a chance to spread everywhere then after I get all I can I transfer the glass dish to a pan of of hot water and work it the. Once you have no bubbles and its all whipped you scrape it with a razor into an amber glob and set it on tinfoil I silicone and wait like 24 hours to smoke

You were doing good until this. Whipping is no bueno and just traps more butane and moisture in your oil. Plus it adds more surface area to the product causing it to degrade much faster.

This, good catch, but seriously though bubble hash>errl, a few weeks ago my buddy from New York turn me on to just straight up dabbing my bubble hash off my nail, rather then breaking it up on to a BP or rolling a french cig, and I like it far far more, even more then taking dabs, it tastes far cleaner because of the lack of BHO and I found, as many hash dabs as I took, I know really felt "dabbed out" like I would after taking dabs all day.

For the win for sure, my favorite way to get high is vaping through glass but it hasnt really hit me like a dab ever, and especially not my first dab

crillo, i feel like your a dab master, are there any tell tale signs of bad oil? supposedly the only stuff (same maker, not strain or look) ive ever got is made from 99% tane and purged with some fancy pants equipment. It usually tastes/smells real good but i am always second guessing if its "safe" or whatever. Its always a sappy consistency, never crumbles or shatters

after you run all that oil on to the pyrex, put the pyrex into a pan with boiling water and keep replacing the water until you stop getting bubbles at all. Now scrap all that shit and put it in to a small oil dish and throw it in the oven at 150 until it turns totally liquid and starts bubbling. keep it in until it stops bubbling. Youre gonna lose a lil but of taste and itll get a lil more ambery then gold but thats the best way to do it if you dont wanna invest in a vac set up.

Huge dabs of underpurged oil will do that. Your friend is dumb for dabbing bad oil, thats a poor choice by him. The first time I ran oil I decided I couldnt wait to purge so i took one dab of the unpurged oil as the rest was purging and I wanted to rip my lungs out of my body, and jesus christ it fucked me up.

It's just caused by idiots being like "huehuehuehue hey dude, lemme just take this dab the size of my fingernail to my dome real quick." Seen it happen.

Also, BHO is bad for you.

I used hemp wick when I'd smoke and I'd only do dabs with waxes that I knew weren't made with that sketchy shit.

I plan on getting a vac for it and instead if the oven after its solid for a while I hear it back up in a Pyrex on hot water. I've done about six batches but I already don't like posting this information on a site like this

I smoke about a of top shelf wax every few days so this definitely applies to me. I only get the finest wax from a dispensary that I frequent in Norther California. I know my wax is high quality and I never cough.... I guess I will be good.

Im just saying, water wont purge your oil completely, no matter how many times you reheat it. The butane will just resettle in the oil. Maybe if you have it on a hot plate with the water but it sounds like you just use hot water on a plate. Maybe I miss understood your tek but idk.

The major reason for the collapsed lung was it was a big hit, bigger than you need for just getting stoned. The poorly purged bho probably added to it. As stated before whipped bho has more solvent left in the final product. You might want to keep that in mind if you want a more pure hash.

Interesting fact. Technically BHO is illegal or is a grey area in California and you may get into some shit if the police find that on you. Just a heads up since I didn't realize that until recent browsing through forums. I have read some stories about kids getting arrested for having a dab of oil, and taken jail and federal court. So if a cop asks you don't tell him you have oil even though your a medical patient.

This.  There's a pretty drawn out process of getting the butane out.   Fail to do so and you're not doing yourself any favors, that's for sure.  Just because some asshat on youtube does it that way doesn't mean it's right. 

I do get wax, but only from the most obsessive dabhead rungeek I know.  I don't buy wax from wherever, as people are always autobuttering and thinking shit's good to go and it's not.

Once you know what you're doing it's easy but to think you're gonna scrape->dab immediately is retarded.  Not saying Beezy is doing that, but anybody who does is an idiot plain and simple.
