the biggest problem I have with it is that combat simply is not a proper place for a social experiment. The Israelis tried it, and I believe still have some women in combat roles but studies found that the men fighting with the women would become too protective and lose focus on the mission itself.

If they can do the same work as the men just as well, then by all means, go for it.

It's a distraction to soldiers in dangerous situations. I think it's a bad idea because of that. The main reason women join the military is to be a limiting reagent and get major ass anyway

True, but what happens when a man isn't capable of performing those same tasks? I honestly don't know, but whatever happens should be the same for women. I don't think that categorically women should be excluded from combat, but they shouldn't be let in at any lower standard. At the end of the day we've got wars to fight and people are dying. Ideally, I think objective equality should be the rule. If you are the better candidate for the job its yours, black, white, gay, female, whatever. If not, see ya. In my experiences with the construction industry (obv not the same at all, but similar in that its white male dominated with a ton of racists, homophobes and sexists) people that are good at their job get respect regardless of who they are, people that suck get the axe. Seems to make sense for this situation as well.

I think it's great. I mean it sucks that there is armies, I don't think there needs to be, Hitler invented preventative war BUT

Yeah totally makes sense. And to people saying they would pose a distraction to men? I'm pretty sure military training is (hopefully) thorough enough to get people to keep there cool with a couple heavily clad women around. And anyways, it's not the women's problem, it's the men's, so why don't we focus on changing them instead of barring women. I also don't buy that women are more emotional shit. I think society allows women to be more emotional, and makes men hold it all in and only lets them express themselves in anger, which to me seems more dangerous than someone who is allowed to be open and get emotional support. (unlike men).

^Most women would join the military to get ass? Srsly stupid words right thr.

I think that they should choose the top % of people to engage in combat based on their physical tests. It will naturally place most men higher than women because many women aren't as strong, etc. But for those that ARE, they'll place high enough to do it. So yeah-- base it off of training results, and place gender aside, it will work its way out.

no, do you know how much easier it would be to brake or torture a female for information. also im not saying all woman but after living with 4 sisters i do not know many woman who do well in high pressure situations.

I don't know that this is true. I mean, if a male soldier is willing to take torture and die before giving up information, what makes you think a female wouldn't? Women can handle physical pain. Are you suggesting they can't?

Think about childbirth-- also, my brother can beat the living shit out of me, but I never stopped standing up for myself. I mean-- if a woman believes in something, she isn't any more willing to "cave" than a man that believes in something.

I don't get this argument, really.

If a woman makes the decision that she will sooner lose her life, than give up what she believes in, I'm not convinced that she is any more likely to abandon that dedication than a man.

sure. but they should also have women-specific reasons for getting out of it-- ie: pregnant.

Also- just because they're drafted doesn't mean they engage in combat, they'd still have to prove themselves physically capable of combat. If they weren't, they could take a different position-- nurse, aid, office position..

I'm fine with it but I think it's possible that women could become a distraction on the frontlines. And being that sexual assault already occurs in the military I wouldn't be surprised if the reports in that increased. But the military isn't lowering training requirements and what not for Special Operations units which is good.

1) men instinctivly protect females.

2) it ruins a unit dynamic when you involve women because someone WILL get feelings and then drama ensues.

all dudes causes less drama than all girls which causes less drama than coed.

3) hygenic issues-and hormonal/mood changes contained

4) places a greater risk upon the men in the unit because some enemies will shy away from attacking female members of the unit

5) higher risk of debilitating lower extremetiy injury( has to do with the misshapen pelvis for childbirth).

6) the army would have to put an oven in every coed vehicle.

In the military at least among infantry the whole unit is built around trust, trust that if you get hit someone will be able to drag your ass out.

Little brother is in the Marines, and hes a lightweight in his platoon at 175, add on 80 pounds of gear and shit hitting the fan and you have a major issue for trying to shoulder them out.

There have been multiple attempts by female marines to pass BASIC infantry school for the marines, and not one has ever passed. Up until last month they weren't even required to do pull ups.

If they can pass every test, run the same PT, and qualify then id me more accepting of it, but then the next issue becomes how to deal with a female as far as sleeping, latrines etc in the field, and would anyone choose to save her over someone who has a better chance of making it.

I think these are all valid points but lets be honest here, maybe 0.5% of women would actually enlist as a combat role. Not saying women cant shoot, make decisions, etc. Just that physically they cant keep up

Yes, but only in all women regiments/squadrons/flights etc.

it is a mans nature to protect a woman, they are going to make decisions they wouldnt normally make if females were in their combat unit.

We know women arent as physically capable as men, thats a fact Jack. So if someone needs to be carried or equipment needs to be moved a woman cant be as effective as a man.

there is a reason why women have different PT requirements, that are easier, in every branch of the service.

valid point here: "all women are combat ready once a month"
