Last year at the end of the season I bought a pair of Line poles and I loved them. I probably used them 3 times last season. Then, first day of this season, one of them just snapped randomly when I was skiing throw powder. I'm not sure why I may have hit it on a something but definitely not hard enough for it to snap. I bought them from REI, are they not good poles and should I get a different brand or should I stick with Line?
Poles are poles, unless you are spending large sums of money on them. I normally break a couple pairs a season, so I just get the cheapest poles I can find. Sometimes spray paint them. I also cut down a longer pair and threw some bike grips on them
broke both mine i was gifted with last year while skiing pow & trees. i took off the grip which is what i liked anyway and put them on some renal poles from the 80s.
Yeah dude I bought some poles a few days ago and then stomped out the basket landing from hitting a jump. So I guess the moral of the story is that poles break easily and don't buy really expensive ones because they are not worth it.
Same aluminum as all other pole company with a higher grade on the Pollard (they're more expensive) but just, poles do break, especially in really cold weather. Be on the look out for a new composite pole with maximum non breaking ability next year called the Whip!
my line poles bent pushing off. but like others said.. poles are poles unfortunately. Been rocking scott series 2 and have had no issues. youd think line poles would be thicker aluminum since park related use. Maybe fill them will lightweight spray foam? anyone ever try that?
I tend to go on EVO or REI, filter for the cheapest decent looking pair, fid a size in the 40-50in range and cut them down myself. I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 for a pair. I tend to bend at least one of them each month, so it doesn't make too much sense to dump money on them. Also at the park level, you will have zero idea on the difference between a good $80 pair and a set of cheapo's.
i have the yellow pin poles from a couple of years ago and still going fairly strong obviously bent but not beyond use just not straight anymore, have bike grips over the handels as the tennis grip things got ruined will keep the grips on a lot of poles from now on, have been original yellow, pink, blue and are now raw
i broke my line pins a while ago, and bought some adjustable black diamond poles. best purchase ever, there super strong, and just telescope them in the park so that you have 2/3 layers (depending on what type you get) and its nearly impossible to break them, i haven't even bet mine yet.
I think I'll give those a try next year because I really do like the Line poles even though my pair broke. I'll just wait out this year with random old pairs.
Poles break all the time. Sometimes you might have a fall and they will seem fine and then next day out they will break for no reason. Always keep the grips and baskets from your broken poles as the can always be reused for other poles. Once you have a collection and you want to start getting creative then just buy rental poles and spray paint them whatever design you like. And rental poles are usually pretty durable too.
