my parents are really pressuring me to get a job. the problem is i really dont enjoy dealing with people and i dont want a job. but since im probably gonna have to get one anyone have good suggestions for a job note: im 17.

check for municipal job postings. things like outdoor maintenance (street keeping, grass mowing in parks etc) are usually solitary in nature and pay quite well. (I know at least in B.C. people made 22$ an hour driving ride-on lawn mowers around parks all day)

also, if you're old enough see if you can get on a flagging crew

otherwise suck it up and get a job like everyone else.

Dishwashing. Where i worked there was a first and second dishwasher. The first dishwashers dealt with all the gross shit and put it through the machine. Second dishwasher took the clean dishes, dried them off and put them away. Both decent jobs for being 17, the chefs usually make you food and you can eat ice cream and shit while all the waiters/waitresses are stressed out and running around. Not a bad gig for starting out.

^ Well were I worked their wasnt any tips (assisted living/nursing home). I worked as a waiter but switched to dishwashing because you got paid the same, and OP said he didn't want to deal with people.

Along those lines municipal jobs tend to pay well, for someone of your age park districts often have all sorts of opportunities: after school programs, lifeguards, and need staff for any number of other programs. I did this for a few months in college.

Get a job with friends. I make pizza with 2 of my best buds at a local restaurant and we just chat and have a great time working. Sure the pay isnt spectacular but at least its fun and good for a part time job.

I think it's the sand oils or something but that place is booming right now, but that's attracted a lot of scummy people so it's a little wild west like out there, hence the gun.

Hotel front desk was probably the most relaxed job I've ever had. If you get a job at a decent spot, you just sit, relax for your shift, drink lots of free coffee/juice/hot chocolate/whatever and do school work or watch movies or whatever. Then every now and then you check someone in. So easy and mellow. You do have to be nice to people on occasion, but there were nights with 1 check in or nights with 40, and even still, that's not too many people.

You should lifeguard or bus tables. Sometimes the servers will tip you in when you do a good job bussing. When I worked in a restaurant for the summer there were busy nights that I'd make over 100 in tips alone. Cash moneyyyyy.

you dont like dealing with people, the dishwashers are waiting for yah bud. Congrats at growing some balls and not feeding from your parents as much. Even thinking about a job beats most of the kids on NS.

Indeed, the exponential growth and demand for workers has outpaced housing supply and new builds. Just need to hope the market doesn't overreact and create a surplus.

Me and a couple of friends were thinking it would be cool to buy a camper, work up there in the summer, then in the winter drive it up to Utah or Oregon or Colorado and shred all winter, then repeat till we had real jobs.
