cursive, bright eyes, the faint, brand new, the war on drugs, circa survive, crime in stereo, thrice, Thursday, of monsters and men, RADIOHEAD, nirvana, smashing pumpkins, my bloody Valentine(not bullet for my Valentine, if you think that please shoot yourself), TMV, at the drive in, modest mouse, built to spill, Elliott Smith, of Montreal, etc
tell me some good bands I haven't heard of!
also discuss why most folks music taste resembles that of a retarded 12 year old
Op got but hurt that nobody liked brand nizzle in the other thread.
It's all about the whomp bro.
When the bass hits it's like all my troubles go away. I don't care that I'm gonna fail the test in the morning at school, I don't care that my basketball team sucks, I don't care that people were mean to mean, in that moment it's me and my friends, my true friends and we just groove.
The ability to go to a show with out knowing any music and just groove together with total stangers.
That's what dubstep means to me. I also like other forums of edm too. I'm not a one track pony. I have a very broad range of styles I listen to for my age.
I'm actually going to see skrillex this summer again with my friends. It's going to be fucking awesome!
dubstep is merely fun music. yes it's fun to roll balls and grind on chicks, but does the music have substance? is someone's heart and soul poured into every lyric? are there talented artists killing it on their instruments? not really. therefore I'd rather go see a sick . BAND play than some guy ducking around with his laptop. not saying dub isn't FUN, but I don't see substance in it. it's an excuse to do a bunch of drugs and grope on chicks. is that the vibe you'd get if you went to a nirvana show back in the day? no. is that the vibe at a crime in stereo show? no. it's a different vibe which I prefer because I like to see musicians actually playing music over some guy ducking around on a laptop.
Dicking around on his laptop? Are you fucking kidding me? I'd like to see you try and make half of this shit. The complex understanding of rhythm and beats just too start and then create and layer all these different sounds together in harmony.
If you don't think skrillex is a musician then you're just ridiculous. Wait until 10 years from now when people look back on these years and how much music progressed.
This is the future. Not saying people playing in bands don't have talent or that I hate them, but you saying dubstep djs aren't talented is fucking stupid.
I'm going to assume that was a response to me (there's a quote reply button for a reason) and I'm going to assume you mean Skrillex. While I dislike Skrillex I can guarantee that at least one of the bands you listed I would find as offensive, if not more, to my ear canals as Skrillex.
Word of advice: you're not special, your music is not better. Keep your opinions as opinions and stop trying to make them facts
I'm sure it's no harder to play a four chord powerchord progression over and over for 3 minutes, which is what several of the bands you listed do in just about every song.
Ok sit down kiddies, it's time for your lesson in debate for today. When you say "I think dubstep is ear cancer" that is an opinion. When you say "Dubstep IS ear cancer" that is stating a fact
Well the internet has spoken and you and your opinions are bunk.
Skrillex touched my soul the first time I listened to it. IT was in study hall 2 years ago freshman year. I was having a shitty day and somebody gave me their ipod and told me I had to listen to this song.
I never knew that day would change my life. My parents were pissed when they found out I traded my violin for a pair of cd turntables and a midi keyboard but they'll get over it eventually. I hope to one day be a successful edm artist. Not saying I'm going to be the next skrillex but I'm gonna work my ass off to be the best I can.
This was just me fooling around but it's a taste of some of what I can do with my laptop that I couldn't do with a violin.
Rise Against, Muse, Green Day, Imagine Dragons, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Five Finger Death Punch, All That Remains, Atreyu, Paramore, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, The Fray
I believe your missing exactly what I'm arguing, of which the basis is this: innovative, talented bands are something that more people should listen to because in my opinion they make better music than popular dj' s. the argument that skilled must be good because he has millions of fans I'm sorry is just dumb. Britney spears has millions of fans, it's still pop garbage. are you a Britney fan as well? I just don't think popularity has anything to do with quality, I mean burger has millions of fans and that doesn't stop his music from being terrible. expand your horizons, there good music to be found about everywhere.
