i really don't think anyone should be surprised. tanner was definitely a pioneer, but the sport has advanced so much in just the last few years.
regarding him "talking shit", unless you've met the guy don't judge him. i had the privilege of skiing with him in Whistler back in 2002-2003 when he was at the top of his game and all i can say is that he is a super nice dude.
i hope that he can find his place in the industry again, whether it is working with Oakley or Armada, or doing broadcasting or judging for comps.
What does that have to do with you lecturing him for not trying a double? Tanner knows that qualifying for the olympics is not going to be easy and he has said as much in recent interviews; he certainly does not need the advice that you so kindly provided for him in your first post. He was hating on Walter Wood too, who is probably a turd.
if injuries don't hold him back, i imagine his ski career will shift to the backcountry. his bc segment in yearbook was pretty ill.
