fatty fat skis on groomers..

so im ridding a ski that'll be 116 under foot this season. im ridding whistler this year and im sure its going to be a bitch of a ski lower mtn. has anyone ridden something this fat and can give me an idea of what to expect?

ive ridden moships and the k2 kahunas on groomers. they did fine... just make sure your bindings are cranked up. when i was on the kahunas they blew off my feet in the middle of a turn due to the increased leverage of not having the edge underboot. they were demos though, so the din was pretty weak straight out of the shop.

also take into account the fact that im 6'5'' and weigh 200 pounds...

the moships did fine, but they have considerably less width than what youre on.

i saw people on madens and on a ski 110 under foot riding at hood in the summer and it looked like they were having no problms...........but it was andy mare and eric pollard.

you should have no prob....I rocked my Sugar's all last season, and fat skis are actually pretty good in the crud. Anyway, I doubt you'll be skiing the lower part of the mountain all day...it'll just be the last ski run out you have to worry about....just don't turn

man those ski dont like bumps or carving. did you mount them a bit too the inside? I mounted my 115mm fats 1 cm to the inside to help start the turn. I would suggest straight lining with a bit of turning.

95, which is like 25 more than say, my GS skis... +20 on that = 120 so pistols to madens should feel like race skis to pistols... i think its doable.

Liberty's C-Note is 100mm under foot. Supposed to be pretty stable and fast. Good technology from what I understand. Haven't tried them yet though.

There is 2.5cms diference between these skis. Aks will not rock the groomers. Pure soft snow basher that will take more effort to turn on the groomed.

These sksi and the BCs are nothing like each other. I have super fats and trust me they are pigs compared to PRs and Little big fats on the groomed or for that matter ice.

Brakes can be ordered they make those brakes for the heli ski companies and now the new generation of fat skis.

im talking relatively, come on... pistols ski super easy on groomed and the differenc between them and race skis is about the same as them and madens... so i assume i personally will have no qualms.

relatively speaking they dont compare at all.
115 under foot is huge. trust me they are not going to turn well on anything hard. I have skied straights to to super fats of this size and they were not designed to ski groomed.

Thus the name Maiden AK stress AK= Alaska

A 116 waist is what you need below mid so don't worry about it. Half the time whistler's ice, so any thing other a race ski's gonnabe shit anyways. But if the 116's your only pair of skis this year maybe consider stacking a bunch of risers on 'er, that'll give you a bunch of edge grip. A 116 with 30mm or risers would probably be like skiing something with a 90mm waist. Or something like that.

And you think 116mm is gonna be bad? My 130mm Spatula's are gona be a really ball, especially with the rocker.

if you stack risers you will just make the ski too heavy. Dont even think about stacking risers. My suggestion is dont ski a 45 degree bump run that is hard and icy. Dont think youll carve so many linked turns cause, the slightest error kicks your foot out and you have to reset your timing.

My main point is dont take em out to ski groomers all day long. and learn to straightline

I ride some 189cm Pistols and I'm 6'1' and about 230....(yes I know, I'm a biggin)...but anyways, they work fine for me....fast as hell though, which is plus...but make sure you have some leg strength because it takes a lot more to throw around my pistols on groomers....I rode them at CB on nothing but groomed..I have never been so tired in my life

why are you skiing those skis at resorts? they're obviosly made to only ski on podwer. it doesnt matter what ski your on you can still make it down the hill, just make big GS turns or straightline down the hill and youll be fine

i dont know about such wide waist, i would go with a smaller if youre not thinking about to skis or have to skis.
I ride the scratc BC`s and they work fine everywhere.
But they get a little boring when your skiing icy groomers, but then again it depends more on your rideing technic then your skis.
But i think 116 are a little to wide if youre going to have only one ski thought.

i didnt read any of the other posts, i gotta get back to work, but you can get any ski working just fine on groomers if you think about your..

inside pinky and middle toe, and what they are doing...

your inside knee, and what it is doing...

and your out side ankle, and what it is doing...

also, hips, and your body core...




dont really try to hard, just pay attention to what is going on in your legs, ankles and feet.

almost pretend that you can weight the inside ski's tip, with out leaning all teh way up there.
