If you slide a rail on the nose/tail piece of your binding, you are not pressing.

Rocking back and forth on the rail because you got on it from the side or for whatever reason is not pressing.

Crouching down low doesn't mean you are pressing.

Sorry to burst your bubbles Mcveigh fan boys but despite his ability to do insane presses and ride with butter style, more often than not, he's just sliding a rail.

yeah but imo a "fake press" across the whole rail is much cooler than a gay ass "real press" for 2 feet of the rail then sliding off.

since you made this post, i would like to add on that....

doing a 180 10ft before the rail is not a butter. doing a 180/270 in one solid motion when getting on a rail = butter. :P haterific!

sliding a rail with your skis consistently held at that angle is harder than just regularly sliding a rail, whether you call it a press or a blunt or whatever, it is a different trick.

Presses IMO are cooler when they do not last ages. I like it when the skier plays with his balance on the rail, ending with press to like "press out". And it's definitely hard to press for a long time.

Well, technically, you can't prove this is a real press either just from a picture. He could be sliding off and just sliding on the tails, not balancing on them. Although I highly doubt that is the case, can't be positive with a static image.

Anyway, they are both dope.

sorry to burst your bubble but in the example shown the skier is doing a blunt slide or a tail slide. A press does not happen when the sliding device is 90 degrees to the sliding surface. they must be parallel or straight on with the skis flexed in order to be a nose press or a tail press.

Skiers tail slide when lip sliding, landing on the tails and sliding on the tails

skiers blunt slid when jumping on the rail tips first, landing on the tails and sliding on the tails

skiers nose slide when jumpin on the rail tips first, landing on the noses and sliding on the noses

skiers nose blunt when lip sliding, landing on the noses and and sliding on the noses.

Nahhh. It's been called a tail press (second picture) for decades in skiing, just cause you have a hard on for skateboarding doesn't mean you can change our trick names. And any trick done with your skis parallel to a rail isn't a trick at all it's whack bullshit that 6 year olds do their first lap in the park ever.

Our trick names?! and besides skateboarders dont call anything a tail press. before you try to be a smart ass and call somebody out at least get your facts straight. tail press, nose press, nollie, ollie, rodeo, misty, flat spin, switch are just a small example of terms that skiers have ripped off from snowboarding the least we can do is apply them the best we possibly can. If we were truly origonal we would come up with our own names but everyone knows skiers arnt that smart.

well i agree dude but to be fair, it's not about being smart. it's just that freestyle in our sport is young relative to skateboarding, snowboarding, whatever. so we're just calling it what that kind of trick is already called in another sport. skiing has invented a bunch of trick names.

but to the OP: what exactly needs clarification? that edit has tons of presses (even by your definition), and the guy does them pretty well and spins into and out of them. and that's hard.

So you think skiers should have come up with different names for types of spinning? So the same rotation done on skis would have a different name than that of a snowboarder? A cork would be what? a looptey lou? Ollie and nollie should have different names as well even though they are essentially the same motion? That is just retarded.

Moving on, the four tricks you described specifically were tail SLIDES and blunts. I don't care whether you were fantasizing about P Rod or Danny Kass when you wrote that, you were naming skateboarding tricks. Do those two points I just made contradict each other? Ya, so?
