Just grab blindly. You'll have a way easier time if you practice the grab enough to a point where you don't have to think about it in the air. Looking for the ski and consciously grabbing it tends to stall your rotation.
I kinda naturally know where my tail is. On bigger jumps I do use the first 180/ 360 to quickly locate my tail and hold it there since the grab will hold my entire trick together. But I never totally turn my head the opposite side of the rotation, I can't see my "true tail" but by seeing most of the ski, I know where the tail is. This should take not more than half a seconde.
Usually I just grab blindly high up but not specifically reaching for the tip. When I really want to tweak it or put my hand right over the top I look for it
on three tails i usually look back over my right shoulder it slows down my spin a lot and is nice for big jumps. When I go for 7's and higher I am used to grabbing tail from all the 3's and such I no longer need to look back over the shoulder because I know where it's going to be already. I suggest you try to work up to it this way as well. I know it's not for everyone but it really helped me.
i dont look when i grab, just right when you throw the rotation cross yer skis and reach for that tail, sometimes your hand wont find the ski right away, but practice makes perfect and after a few tries you should have it down.
get comfortable grabbing blunt in 3's and 5's. then when you get to 7's, set the 7, stay relaxed in the air until about 270-to 360 (whatever feels better) then bring your grab to your hand (i find it easiest to watch for the tail, grab it, and then when I feel like I'm in the right place, let go of the grab and look back around to your landing)
