SO chicken let me get this straight. You don't think that people buy guns for reasons other than self defense (where i'd agree with you that a lot of people are overcompensating) but for personal enjoyment such as hunting or target shooting or collecting? It seems like you don't personally know very many gun owners. I live in Idaho and Montana where guns are extremely common and 90% of gun owners didn't get their guns for protection, they got them because they own ranches or competitively target shoot or hunt, all valid reasons to own guns. I see people walking around with guns all the time and I feel safer going outside at night than almost anywhere else I've been.
It seems like you're pretty emotional about gun control, but why not worry about the many other issues that take far more lives and cause far more suffering than a few random shootings that the media has blown up to the point that people forget that for every kid killed that day in Sandy Hook hundreds died from wars, malnutrition, disease, car accidents, natural disasters, and all the many fucked up issues that the world faces. But instead of focusing on those issues you've decided to take up the anti gun crusade because thats what the media and your peers told you was the big problem facing our planet. Good job trying to put a stop to those nasty guns in wealthy western countries. I'm sure when you succeed the world will become safe and peaceful for everyone!
