Replying to Freeze, Unfrozen!
Hey all! Well, despite the tremendously shitty news that corporate sloths at Time 4 closed Freeze Magazine, (my favorite by far), so they can get more money for their other half ass ski publications (i.e. Ski and Skiing), there is some good news. depending on you that is. I work for a major publishing family in New York, and I am from Whistler and my first love is skiing. Anyway, this family has developed many other major magazines and publications and is very interested in picking up where Freeze left off. Of course, this is a very hard place to just pick up and go from. Freeze had many years of loyal readership under their belt and a lot of time to get contributors etc. take it to the level it was. Now I know a lot of you had issues with certain sections of the magazine. Specifically the half ass writing in the very limited articles that they had, not to mention the Brad Holmes page. I personally enjoyed a lot of the stupid 'pooh' humor that made up most issues, but didn't really vibe with Holmes still getting a section this many years later. Regardless. I feel that with your input, and support, a new magazine could very well be in the works and very soon. I would like to address a few points though. Please ask away and I will try and answer all the questions etc. in regards to the new mag soon.
1)Although petitioning helps make our point be know, I very much doubt that Time Warner, Time 4, or Transworld will give a shit and they almost certainly will not reverse this decision. They are a big leauge publisher and want numbers to be much larger ala 'Home and Garden' or 'Golf Digest.'
2)Although a petition will help in the creation of a new magazine and in the faster creation of that magazine. I will goto Petition Online and create on this weekend. I encourage you to spend 1 min and sign up to it. I will post the link in this thread. This will help my publisher move ahead faster.
3)Section Ideas. People you would rather read about or hear from in the magazine. Also, any other features, ideas, stories, etc.
4)Subscription sign up's. This is of huge importance to publishers. If I could get a large list of people willing to subscribe right off the bat, they would go into production immediately. Would people be willing to do this? Obviously with a money back quarantee.
Anyway, I this email is no where near complete on my part! I have to run right now, but will be back shortly to answer questions and tell you more about this. I would just like to say that this is a serious void in the ski industry, (Freeskier and Powder mags aside), and I intend to fill it. I hope you guys help. Cya.
