First flip; Back or front?

I have no idea which one i want to try. Can do both on a trampoline. Attempted backflip into water on a bike and made it 3/4 of the rotation. People are throwong them at my home park left and right. Help please!

backies are way easier, just find a good stop to try one, into some pow or on the right jump that even if you only make it half way round you will be ok.

once you try your first one you will be ok, the main thing is getting over the fear on the first attempt

you could work on it on the trampoline/off an airbag (if you have access) but honestly, find a nice small poppy jump, or one that you're super comfortable with on a warm day when the snow is soft, and just commit, at worst you'll under/over rotate a bit, but once you get over your first attempt, it'll be easy from there, Goodluck!

never tried a front, but backies are wicked easy. if you can do it on a trampoline, you can do it on skis pretty much. honestly the only thing to worry about is over rotating.

I landed my first flip yesterday, underflip 5, landed it second try only because i knuckled the first try. I would definitely say this is the best trick to try first if you know how to do them, you can see your landing the entire time, they come around naturally, and its possibly the easiest trick to set on skis.

i havent done either on skis but from my experience, backflips are easier but frontflips dont take as much balls. my first flip on skis will probably be a front..but if you can start out with a backflip, do it man!

Thats the thing! Front flips are way less scary! Yesterday i saw some old guy try a backflip and backed out half the way through! GOt hauled out on a stretcher then an ambulance picked him up!

i can front but have never tried a backflip. definitely less scary doing a frontflip, and theres a lot less risk involved.

That was my plan for the season. I was going to learn fronties off the rollers of landings but my park didnt build anything big enough anywhere to have enough speed. and our biggest jump is a 8 foot gap with no lip. might as well be a drop with a landing.

FROM EXPERIENCE

I tried to learn frontflips first a few years ago because I was terrified of backflips.  I landed like 2 out of the 30 I tried.  I decided to learn backflips last year, fell on the first few I tried and other than that have landed just about every one I've done since then.  Backflips are easier! but I know how scary they can be to learn

Underrotated front flip: worst shinbang known to man.
Underrotated back flip: faceplant down the landing.
There's a good chance you'll underrotate your first one so take your pick.

When I first tried them everybody told me back flips were easier, but I was scared of them, so I tried front flips first. After failing constantly I tried back flips and can honestly say they are much easier, just got to commit one hundred percent.

Back Flips are 100X easier and a more natural rotation. It is easy to stomp a back flip, but even the best of pro's backseat front flips 90% of the time.
Here is an edit with a lot of backs and fronts in it. Towards the end they even drop a few side by side. Watch how hard they stomp the backs and how they land backseat on the fronts(even if they were supermaned to the max) every time.

1 do it on a trampoline

2 next time you get a foot or more of snow, build a really kicky (steep) jump right in your backyard, lean back with the jump with your legs extended then pop and bring your knees to your face.

Backflip is easier but harsher if you wuss out mid-air...

Frontflip is harder but easier to commit to and you "just" land on your back if you wuss

go for backies defiantly. just try building a little jump in your backyard with ur buds after u get some fesh snow... this is how my friend learned them. the scariest part is just trowing it. even if u clip ur tips the first time its not as scary throwing it the second time. if ur home mnt has a pipe try throwing it out of the pipe thats how my other friend learned them. just make sure to chop up the deck so u dont hurt ur heels

probably easier to backflip because you can spot your landings but frontflips are less scary i find, for a frontflip you need to time your rotation but backflip you can decide on how much moer to flip when you spot the landing, good luck!

I was doing backflips onto my mountains air bag the other day and it was my first time trying them. The first time I didn't even realize I was trying it until seconds before I was in the air, and I under rotated a bit. Then the second time, I landed on my feet but was seriously hunched over, fell after I hit the bag and seriously kinked my neck. Any tips on how to straighten out on the landing?

Backflips need a ton of commitment. You can't stop once you start. Frontflips are harder but way less scary. I threw frontflips first. Lincoln loops are pretty easy but they are kinda awkward cause you're flipping sideways and moving forward

Dude I landed my first front Saturday and my first backflip tonight.  Honestly the backflip was easier, but a lot scarier.  If hucking it is no problem for you go with the back. You can spot your landing super soon compared to a frontflip which is pretty blind.  Just make sure you throw it hard enough, backslapping is better than catching the tips!

same, i can do backies, but not quite 360s so yeah, just whatever jump you try it on make sure its pretty poppy so it like gives you a hand on your rotation. haha.

Same here man. Back flips were the first trick I learned. I tried Fronts last night for the first time and under rotated just about every single one. Most of the backslaps didn't hurt until the one I overshot and landed on my back just before flat, that fucking sucked.

I can't get the rotation around on fronts. Leaving the lip to do a front seems unnatural, like you have to work against the natural force on your body that is pushing you backwards.

Do you basically forward pressure/nollie off the lip, try to put your head between your legs and tuck your legs simultaneously? The closest I got was a slight backslap/backseat that I rode away from but certainly wasn't clean.

I don't really push off, but yeah frontflips are pretty hard to get around the first time or 2. It took me like 5 tries to finally make it all the way around haha. I wouldn't push of the lip unless the jump is pretty small, because you don't really need to. Just throw yourself forward really hard, tuck really firm and think of kicking your legs over your head. Trying them on tramps first is a good way to practice, because when I first started doing them on tramps I never made them to my feet. (Even though i was like 8 at the time)

Tl;DR

Throw/tuck hella hard and kick legs over head. DON'T DO the dicksucktuck tho

Thanks duder. Someone that was watching me told me I wasn't tucking my feet hard or fast enough. Is it like a roller where you are supposed to stagger one foot a bit or do you just tuck as hard as you can as soon as you leave the jump? I was getting really close but then I back slapped hard and the hill got real icy so I put it on hold till another day.

I learned front flips first. i think front flips are easier off smaller jumps, but back flips are much less itchy. i'd go for a backflip first.

since you do both tricks on trampoline, do a backflip. a frontflip on skis is completely different than on a tramp. backflips are very similar from tramp to snow, so go for the backie. make a steep ass kicky ass jump somewhere with a soft landing and you'll be fine
